  1. Difficult to choose but I ultimately went for Ocon, both DOTW & DOTD.

Indeed a great race (not weekend) by Ocon; just poor timing as Verstappen had an even better race/weekend* ;)

*Even though Ocon caused him to not pass beyond Q2.

    2. Not bad for a #2.

    3. I go for Max since he won while Herbert was clearly aiming to script a 29 points overhaul for Lando this weekend. Johnny did what he could and before race start it looked like he was going to make this record and finally get his way, but then Max decided otherwise.

  2. While Verstappen is definitely the the class of the field in the race, I think Russel had an overall very good weekend.

  3. For me, I couldn’t vote for anyone other than Verstappen. That was an incredible drive.

  4. Max, Ocon and Russel were all great, but ultimately Max had the most work to do in the race and had the most to lose, but instead just put the nail in the coffin of Norris’ championship hopes with an incredible drive. Yes he made the error with the VSC in the sprint, but he was unlucky in qualifying with the red flag and can hardly be blamed for his pre-penalty grid slot. I wonder if we might even see the mythical ‘9’ in the driver ratings?

  5. Ocon, Russel or Verstappen. Ultimately I had to go for Verstappen. He was the only one that passed people and qualifying was mostly down to bad luck.

  6. Lance Stroll of course! Lol!

  7. Verstappen for me, i didn’t agree with the safety car and I don’t like the free tyre change in redflag conditions but todays driving was sublime

  8. Ocon would have this sewn up at any other race this year, but I think Max Verstappen just put in the greatest drive of his career to date.

Russell and Gasly very good as well. Tsunoda, Lawson, Bottas, Leclerc and Norris were average. The other 11 drivers on the grid all had an absolute shocker.

  9. Max would have been on pole if not for the red flag but if not for the red flag we wouldn’t have seen that legendary drive from him. Such is the way of fate.

  10. Damn you, Verstappen. Here, take my vote.

  11. Has to be Ocon, great qualifying and denied a win because of the final safety car…

    1. Ocon never would have won – safety car or not. Max took it easy after the rolling restart and managed the gap for visibility and tire life. He was already reeling in Ocon before the safety car.

Max got 20 seconds on him after passing him with like 25 laps to go.
That overtake into turn 1 after restart was magnificent – Ocon didn’t even see him – Max came from so far back.

@f1statsfan yes he did come from far behind like he used to … with the old car. He knew he’d make it because he’d done it in 30 races. It’s amazing how you keep track of stats and can’t even tell one Red Bull car apart from another, especially their best car. It’s like Newey looking at a Williams and not being able to tell it apart from his car. One of us is clearly blind here and the stats are fully in my favor as you’ve noted.

        1. Hahahaha, sorry this is just too comical. The rain takes away all car advantages some had over Max since June. What you are saying is that Max made the difference.

  12. No fan of Verstappen, but he drove an epic race, with none of the petulance we’ve seen in recent races. We witnessed one of the great drives in F1 history today.

Honorable mention to Alpine, which seems to be peaking late.

strange right? He should have been complaining on every turn. Clearly it was a different race for Max. One with 1-2 minute clear advantage going on the wet parts of the track and clearing the other car as if it were a Formula 2 vehicle.

  13. It’s a no brainer. Max. This was among the best drives ever. And not just the GP. He was great in the sprint as well and I’m sure he would had taken pole this morning too.

From P17 to P1? How can you dismiss that?

    1. Fastest car in the wet, no one defended at all. Lucky safetycar and red flag.

Good drive, but he had some luck along the way too.

      1. You need luck to be successful. All the greats have been lucky. Max was lucky, but he made his luck. Norris could have opted to stay out when it rained heavily, he pitted. Max could have opted to stay out when it rained heavily, he stayed out. And in the end, Max was just ridiculously fast in awful conditions.

      2. I guess that’s why Peres was second? Oh! that’s right.

      3. NB! before safety car and the leaders pitting, Max was already up to 5th and only 15 seconds off the lead having come from 17th, I recon he would have come close to the win anyway.
And what a shame Lewis (10th) doesn’t drive the same car as George (4th)…Oh! that’s also wrong…

  14. Voted for Hamilton as it seems sadly this was his final race for Mercedes. Wish they’d have ended things differently and let the fans know, they deserved that. But thanks for the memories champ. Hope Ferrari have a car capable of race wins.

    1. You have done both here,
1 Blamed the car for Lewis being bad on the day.
2 Hoped Ferrari can give him a winning car.

So win or loose, it’s the car!
I actually agreed, mostly it is the car across a season, but not in the wet.

If you believe that’s the same car that Max has been complaining about for the past 10 races, I don’t know what to say here. Maybe it’s just a TV show after all.

That’s the rocket! It’s impressive and with Max it’s a different category car.

Is it legal? I dunno. The FIA only knows that based on whatever deal they made with Red Bull.

    1. Keep it coming.

    2. Hahaha, keep it coming. I love this narrative. It can’t be Max making the difference when rain neutralises any car advantages some have enjoyed over the last 10 races. That would be far too logical.

    3. It’s the car, LOL two comments one after the other, one from @erikje and one from @freelittlebirds both blaming the car for totally opposite reasons…

    4. So it was the car, nothing to do with Max. So where was Sergio in the same car? Oh, now you are going to tell me why they are not in the same car as that argument suits your agenda.

  16. I voted for Ocon but Max was pretty much the joint winner. Statistic of the day. Only the 5th time in F1 history that a race has been won from 17th or lower on the grid.

    1. I agree that 1954 Indy should be excluded but unfortunately the Indy races in those years do officially count in F1 stats.
But still quite rare with 0.54% (once per 187 races) of races being won from 17th of lower on the grid.

Max has now also won from the most different grid positions of any driver in history – he was tied with Alonso at 9 different grid positions but now that is 10 (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 14th & 17th)

  17. Wanted to vote Ocon. Voted Verstappen (given ‘weekend’ criteria). Now I still wish I had voted Ocon.

  18. Interesting to see that Norris got 1 vote and Lewis got 2 votes – I would say the 1 vote for Stroll is more deserving purely for providing comical entertainment than the votes Lewis and Norris got.

  19. Ocon and Max … with the Sprint and Qualify I give it to Max.

  20. Race? Max Verstappen obviously, good God what a drive. Equally impressive as Hamilton here in 2021.

Weekend? Well, Ocon put that Alpine P4 in quali before driving it to 2nd on merit. He was simply faster than most everyone in a car that should not be that fast. Ocon is easily my Driver of the Weekend despite a poor sprint.

  21. Who was best? Max is looking down from a great height at the other drivers who are all clustered around his feet. The greatest champion on this grid by miles.

  22. #44 ofc. Why? ((let me rewatch the race and find something to say…) Great defense from Checo, the greatest overtaker ever.

  23. Worst failure in the race: Johnny Herbert’s

  24. Someone voted for Lewis? it is vote for best driver of the weekend, not a vote for who you support…
