Norris may still lose 2nd place in the driver’s championship.

And with 24 points ahead George has the upper hand in Merc almost assured

Charles has the chance to surpass Lando which would be just as well, and maybe help Fezza to a much awaited WCC

21 points is a bit much for Ferrari to overhaul in one race. Doesn’t seem the most likely outcome.
Unfortunate, but with five more no-scores than McLaren they can’t really blame anyone else.

Wow 5 is a lot. Their average finishing position when in the points must be higher than McLaren

I should correct: they had four, as Bearman did take 6 points when he substituted for Sainz, I forgot about that one. The four were: both cars DNF in Canada, Leclerc struggled to 14th in England, and Sainz crashed out of the Baku race with Pérez.
The average finishing positions are quite close, with Leclerc slightly ahead of Norris and Sainz slightly ahead of Piastri. But it’s all hovering around 4th to 5th place.

Yes it is a tall order but it all depends who has the better car – Ferrari or McLaren.
If Ferrari get a 1-2 and Max finishes 3rd than Ferrari is constructor champion unless McLaren gets Flap while finishing 4th & 5th.
McLaren got really lucky in Las Vegas that suddenly Mercedes were fast again taking 16 points away from Ferrari.

I know his race wasn’t “clean” and the conditions didn’t really suit Ferrari’s car, but it was a poor showing overall by SAI in the race. Expected a little bit more from him in the fight with GAS given his team had real to win the WCC… and that every point won might turn out to be the decisive point.

He caught a puncture on the debris at T1, or did you miss that.

MG1982 is clearly lamenting the (lost) fight with Gasly after the puncture.
And I assume the not ‘clean’ refers to the puncture.

A supposed title fight this season, where it’s not impossible that the eventual winner is going to win by 100pts.
Max is also approaching triple the points Sergio has, what a year he’s had. Even if the cars stay the same level of competitiveness for next season, it would take a brave man to bet against a 5th title for Max.
montreal95 (@montreal95)
2nd December 2024, 0:35
@brightlampshade Actually it wouldn’t. Without his car’s dominance in the beginning of the season Max would’ve never won the title. He’s great but he’s not a wizard, nobody is. If the RBR car is as bad as it was for most of the last 3/4 of the season since race 1 of 2025 even Max won’t be able to save them.
F1statsfan (@f1statsfan)
2nd December 2024, 7:28
Remove the first 6 races of the reason and Max would still be champion with 1 race to go.
Since Miami Max has scored 293 points and Lando 266 points.
Since Imola Max has scored 268 points and Lando 248 points
Since Canada Max has scored 235 points and Lando 218 points
Since Spain Max has scored 210 points and Lando 204 points
So even after Spain by which McLaren clearly had the fastest car Max has outscored Lando
Lando has outscored Max only 8 times out of 23 race weekends this season including Max’s mechanical retirement in Australia

Thanks for that. Norris lost what might well have been his only opportunity, and he lost it badly, while Verstappen showed he is the undisputed top driver of his generation.

Yup!
Max has certainly had his moments this year, but he’s done what was needed to drag an intermittently good car to its best possible result virtually every weekend this season.

Max will always have the better hand untill other drivers race him like he races them

Even when they have nothing to lose they don’t. It’s time for a Montoya like character to make Verstappen think twice about his antics. If others see it’s possible to fight back hard, they’ll catch on quickly enough.
Dare I say… Hamilton in red?

Good result for Bottas: he’s finally off the bottom of the table. He needed an eleventh place to pass Sargeant, and he got it. No points, but he’s moved past the other non-scorer while continuing to score no points!
