Williams F1 nears Atlassian title deal (Sport Business)
'Williams Racing is closing in on a title sponsorship agreement with Atlassian, the multi-billion-dollar Australian technology company behind the Jira project management tool.'
Netflix considering bid for Formula 1 TV rights (The Times - subscription required)
'ESPN holds the (US) rights at the moment under a $90million (£72.5million) deal, but it is understood that the broadcaster’s exclusivity period to negotiate a new contract with F1 has just expired, which has opened the market for bids from any other interested party.'
Newgarden, McLaughlin to test for Porsche Penske at Sebring (Sportscar 365)
'It will mark Newgarden’s first laps in the Porsche 963 since winning last year’s Rolex 24 with the team, while it’s understood to be McLaughlin’s first outing altogether in the 963 after recently taking part in the Rolex 24 in Trackhouse by TF Sport’s Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R in GTD Pro.'
Scot Elkins to retire from FIA Formula E world championship race director role, and to be replaced by current deputy, Marek Hanaczewski (FIA)
'Scot Elkins has decided to retire from his position in race control after the forthcoming Miami EPrix (12 April) due to personal reasons. Marek Hanaczewski, who has been involved in Formula E in various race control functions since 2014 and has served as Deputy Race Director since Season 8 (2021-22), will succeed Scot as the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship Race Director.'
Gasly opens up on emulating Ryan Reynolds (Daily Mail)
'It’s important for us to build a strong foundation to make sure we get the best out of 2026, which I see as a massive opportunity for the team. That still means we need to be on top of our game this year and get 100 percent out of the car we have. If we can build on how we finished last season and fight for points consistently, that will be a great step but I really want to build the foundations for 2026.'
Ferrucci bullish on Foyt’s chances for championship charge (IndyCar)
'Ferrucci added that a second year working with Team Penske in the technical alliance between the two organisations should be beneficial, along with the number 14 team’s recent move from the Houston area to Indianapolis to bring AJ Foyt Racing’s two-car organisation under one roof.'
Netflix bets on live sport in next big battle for subscribers (Netflix)
'Now that Netflix has shown it can capture large global audiences for live sport, the question is how quickly it plans to expand — and how much it is willing to spend. The success of the boxing match, NFL games and its popular sports documentaries have fuelled talk that Netflix would sign a streaming deal with a major league.'

Hoping we get an improvement, here in the US, over ESPN (who simply, only, have to turn on the Sky feed). They emphatically show the minimum they have to, while switching coverage from channel to channel, to unavailable channel.
Instead of relaxing, enjoying the post race coverage, we get Nicole Briscoe cutting it off “thank you for watching…” and it’s over. For chat about stick & ball games.
And don’t “thank” me for watching!! I’m not watching for you. I’m watching for me and I’m not happy with it.
Someone please bring respectable coverage to the US. And don’t talk about Calvin & Hobbs. They really weren’t that competent. Lovely people but I’d be watching while they nattered on, from somewhere in deepest Connecticut, completely missing what was on screen.

I ended that with / grumpy. But the markup got swallowed. Thought it should be restored.

Is F1TV not available anymore? It used to be. It’s expensive, though.

Expensive? It’s like $8 a month.

ESPN? They just use the world feed. Anyway, I don’t get why anyone would pay for ESPN when F1TV gives you every session, every old race, F2 and F3 + other series, F1 movies and docs, etc. for half the price. And the app is available on nearly everything. So, I’d call this a self-inflicted problem.

Hadjar most certainly didn’t receive a drive only due to a lack of drivers, as Iwasa was also an option for Red Bull but someone they looked over due to his Honda affiliation, & getting replaced by Lindblad is unlikely since Tsunoda is likely to leave after the season, so Hadjar getting replaced would mean zero continuity into the next technical regulation cycle.
I’m still surprised how many people expect Doohan to struggle even though he isn’t even the least ready to compete in F1 & I’m even more surprised about the same regarding Bearman, who’s already shown in his substitution outings that he can perform decently & have a long career in F1, so definitive conclusions are premature.

What makes Tsunoda “likely to leave”? Is that your guess/hunch, or did I miss something?
I mean, even with Doohan, I’d say “it does not look good for our young hero”, but ‘likely to leave’ is too much given the data, and unnecessarily specific.
But then again, I may have missed something :)

If Yuki doesn’t leave the Red Bull family I will eat my shoe (ok lets don’t say this my shoes are dirty) It’s 99,9999999% he is leaving as he is a Honda driver not a Red Bull driver. If you just watch or read all interviews/stories you know that is there because of Honda and Honda left Red Bull so they aren’t keeping him otherwise he would next to Max Verstappen instead of Lawson.

@macleod That’s indeed precisely what I meant in reference to ‘likely departure’ after the upcoming season.
I simply struggle to see him continuing in the Red Bull organization unless he stops his Honda affiliation, which is unlikely because of how important that manufacturer has been to his career since his last years of racing in Japan.

I would’ve added the first time around if I’d noted before, but also on this day 20 years ago, Red Bull unveiled its first ever F1 car, the RB1.

Indeed @red-andy – half my age. Ouch!
Jere (@jerejj)
7th February 2025, 10:21
@red-andy @ahxshades – He’s less than a year younger than me, so I can see what both of you mean.
@bullfrog – Yes, & ironically due to Bottas, Perez, Magnussen, (& Ricciardo before them) getting left out.
The 2025 grid is overall relatively young by average age, not to mention quite a few who were born in the 2000s decade, especially the middle portion covering 2004-06, with 2004 being the year I started following & watching F1.

Only two in their 30s, Hulk and Sainz.
Phil Norman (@phil-f1-21)
7th February 2025, 10:44
So it’s Alonso, Hamilton, Hulkenberg and Sainz who are the four older ones I assume. A bit of a shock that Gasly is next!

@phil-f1-21 That’s indeed the order.

Have to say – I really like the look of the Indy Car. Looks like a racer that I would have drawn as a kid and that’s not a bad thing at all.
