Last year’s constructors’ champions McLaren have presented the livery they will race with during the upcoming season.
McLaren revealed its new car, with which it will attempt to defend their title, in a one-off testing livery at Silverstone last week. The team showed off its definitive paint scheme at Formula 1’s official launch event for the 2025 season in London. The reigning champions benefit from continuity as they head into the new season. They are one of just two teams with an unchanged driver line-up: Lando Norris, last year’s runner-up in the drivers’ standings, remains at the team for a seventh season, alongside Oscar Piastri, who is now in his third year.
McLaren revealed a largely unchanged livery for the 2025 season. The team said they intended to continue their “rich historical tradition of carrying over livery design templates when winning a championship.” Their 2024 title was their ninth, and the first victory for the team in 26 years.
“This marks a special moment in the year as we begin the defence of the FIA Formula 1 constructors’ championship title,” said McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown. “In line with McLaren’s longstanding tradition, our 2025 design is a strong evolution of the title-winning livery.”
Lando Norris said “I’m sure the fans will love the tradition incorporated in the design” of the car’s colour scheme.
The 25-year-old, who scored his first Formula 1 victories last year, is entering his seventh season in grand prix racing. “Having spent my whole Formula 1 career with McLaren, it felt great to be part of winning the championship with the team, and everyone’s hunger for success remains strong,” he added. “I’m now hoping to take the momentum gained across the last two seasons to compete for both championships this year.”

This car looks really nice from the side, as it resembles the old Marlboro styling, but honestly that’s where it ends. Any hopes of permanent white or chrome is now dashed. Same-same, so lacking some originality.

“it resembles the old Marlboro styling”
That’s like saying Sylvester Stallone resembles Arnold Schwarzenneger, because he has a torso.

From the side, it does. The red parts of the old livery are where the orange bits cut into the black :)

I like how fans pushed for decades for the orange livery and now they want silver back.

Roy Beedrill, there is a strong tendency amongst the users here to think that the right way of doing things is to repeat what was happening 20 – 30 years ago, as that is the timeframe that the largest portion of users here became accustomed to when they began watching the sport.
As you note, people were complaining in the past that McLaren should go back to their historic orange liveries. As for the chrome livery, when it was first introduced, there were plenty on this site who complained it was “tacky” and “gaudy” – but, now it’s entering the nostalgia window, people have forgotten the original complaints and now think it’s good.

Awful. They should look at their own 2006 test livery if they must stick to orange. This is a pumpkin. 3/10

They basically keep the same bad livery design, livery so bland that it feels like there’s no livery at all.
There’s a diagonal line in the side view, a hint of another one running parallel to it and that’s it, that’s all they had. Oh my, so bad… so utterly bad…

All this hype and they mostly look the same as last year or worse. Hilarious!!

Only Red Bull and McLaren are the same, I would say. I agree with the second part of your statement. The Ferrari and the AM in particular are hideous.

Maybe a bit better. I still don’t like orange. It would be worth a company-wide rebrand to any other colour. Maybe yellow with the tiniest tinge of orange, if they must.

Why do teams insist on revealing cars on a surface that’s the same color as the car? This applies to most of the reveals; orange on orange for McLaren, black on black for Mercedes, rinse and repeat. This just detracts from the schemes, as they just blend into the background…..

I actually think this livery is a slightly improved one from last year, not yet bored of it, but the more interesting thing is the car that will be dressed in the livery and seeing it go on track.

Decent, but no different from the previous papaya designs.

it’s OK. But to be honest, unless the cars were side by side, I does not seem that much different to last years. Maybe it’s just me. Not at all exciting but I don’t hate it.
