At this early stage in the season, any one of five different drivers could leave this weekend’s race as the championship leader.

But with 590 points still available over the 22 remaining rounds, this is shaping up to be one of the closest Formula 1 championships in years.

RaceFans has updated its championship points calculator for the 2025 season to reflect the off-season rule changes including the removal of the bonus point for fastest lap.

Use the calculator to work out how future races could affect the outcome in the drivers’ championship and how different outcomes for previous races might have changed the points situation.

The points calculator will be updated after the final classification is issued for each grand prix and sprint race during 2025. Find it here:

Penalty points

For the second year running the Formula 1 season features a record 24 rounds, six of which are sprint events, meaning a total of 30 races and 30 qualifying sessions.

The increase in competitive sessions has made it easier for drivers to collect penalty points than it was when the system was introduced in 2014. Last year Kevin Magnussen became the first driver to receive a race ban for reaching the threshold of 12 penalty points.

Keep track of how many penalty points each driver has on this new page which will be updated after every grand prix. Heading into this weekend’s race, Max Verstappen has the most with eight, while Fernando Alonso has dropped to five points, as three he collected in March last year have expired.

Four other drivers are on four penalty points, but seven of the competitors have managed to keep clean sheets so far.

  1. The calculate is nice but it is missing the element that it shows when a driver is mathematical out of the championship as well as when champion with certain results.

With each result filled in the calculator should adjust the available points and once the gap is greater than available points it should show that with those results a driver is champion.

I have this build in Excel if you are looking for guidance but by adding this it really makes your calculator more useful when figuring out which results are needed without having to fill all the boxes.

For this to work you also need to upgrade the calculator that no duplicate results can be entered – currently you can give 10 drivers at same time the Japanese race win.

I’ve got a spreadsheet that does that. *
Additional items cover the required points per race as well so that you can assess the difficulty alongside the absolute values of a can do / can’t do division of possibility.

      * Possibly a little sad…

      1. Why possibly a little sad?
I like Formula 1, I like numbers and I like Excel => F1 Championship Analyzer file

The file is also used to track championship development over the year (similar to Keith’s) and for instance allows me to look first x races versus last y races.

  2. How do you navigate to the calculator from the homepage?

    1. Click on the link that I’m sure Keith plans to put there :)
