Comment of the day

Nico Hulkenberg’s disqualification from the Bahrain Grand Prix was the fourth in as many grands prix so far this year:

We already have the same number of DSQs this season as 2022, 2023, and 2024 combined. Has something changed in what the FIA are doing?

Vettel hails self-critical Norris as 'real role model' (Reuters)

'I would still put Lando as an indirect favourite, but time will tell. Naturally people always look for entertainment, which is fine and it's part of the sport, but I don't see those two (Norris and Piastri) having a really intense and rough partnership.'

Qiddiya, the venue which is due to take over the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in the future, will sponsor this year's race.

Marti: Continued support of Red Bull and Hadjar 'means a lot' after 2024 (Formula Scout)

'It pushes me to say they trust me because I have the talent to do what I’m doing and to do a race like this one. I’m hoping I can make this race a standard for my performance and that I can also build this kind of performance into qualifying.'

Long Beach GP delivers year-on-year TV audience gain (Racer)

'Despite the 80 percent year-to-year gain, the volume of viewers was the second in a row to fall below seven figures, which was likely influenced by going up against The Masters golf tournament on CBS.'

  1. COTD: I don’t think so. Just a coincidence.

Reuters: Maybe, but if Piastri out-performs him over the next 2-3 rounds, I’d start to consider him even more clearly as the WDC favorite.

Saudi Press Agency: So the S/F straight won’t have the purple-backgrounded STC anymore.
Additionally, Qiddiya will more likely join alongside Jeddah than replace it.

Racefans tweets: A funny coincidence regarding Hadjar & I don’t think anyone even expected anything to change for the Jeddah Corniche Circuit since minor alterations for circuit edge surroundings had already been done in 2022.

    1. COTD: I don’t think so. Just a coincidence.

When teams are closer in performance (which they are this year), it is conceivable that teams take more risk to gain a bit of speed, as small improvements can have a significant impact on the final outcome.

      1. Indeed, especially possible given the DQs for ride height related issues.

That, and the sprint weekends don’t help.

      2. S Arkazam True, although my point was specifically about the FIA-related question within the post.

Jere True, although my point was specifically about the coincidence-related part within your post. ;)

    2. I didn’t expect anything to change for the Jeddah Corniche circuit since nobody has died there yet, so F1/FIA will have seen no need yet to address its various high speed blind corner death traps.

  2. Get well soon Roscoe. Pneumonia? Maybe he should see the same vet as Eddie Howe.

  3. Vettel and Norris are kindred spirits: Bottlers first class.

    1. Yes, was thinking the same: it’s not like vettel shined when ferrari exceptionally made a car as competitive as the merc in 2018, in fact vettel was the difference maker compared to hamilton that season, all the points difference is due to him.

    2. While I think it’s good to be open, I don’t consider Norris a good role model. Defeatism can result in failure, even when a goal is achievable. Pessimism and navel-gazing are not things to encourage. I believe Norris can win the world championship this year. I don’t think he will give up and he will keep fighting, but if things get tight his attitude appears to be on his opponent’s side. He doesn’t believe in himself enough.

      Classless comment.

Ngl, I’m amazed Roscoe the old boy has lasted this long. Lewis does well by his dogs. Gives them the best life, people love making fun of his dog being vegan etc, but that dog has lived a longer life than expected. Pretty sure Lewis once said a while back that both Roscoe & the other dog Coco had countless health issues as puppies & most would’ve had them put them down. He’s given them the best life & wasn’t selfish dragging them around the world with him. But for some reason everytime he posts the dog on Instagram you get fools making cheap ‘vegan’ jokes.

    1. It’s understandable that people say this became dogs are not vegan and would not be by choice.

      1. That’s fantastic. Where did you do your veterinary training and does a dog having an operation have a choice also ?

  5. I do not consider Seb an authority. Fine that he is somewhere in the F1 stats but we’ve all seen this guy doesn’t amount to much if his car is not capable of qualifying on the front row.
