Races at Monaco are usually always dull and processional, but conversely, nearly always produce absolutely amazing qualifying sessions to watch. Congrats to Lando…his race to lose now I guess.

Another exciting Monaco qualifying & what a tight end.
Consequently, the race victory is Norris’ to lose.
Stroll again impeding & this time he blamed the Sun.
A silly error by Antonelli & unfortunate issue for Russell.
I wouldn’t be surprised if especially they did early pit stops, i.e., within the first five laps.

@jerejj putting early is a terrible idea. You’d fall into traffic with no hope of an overtake, while the non-pitters stay out long on tyres that don’t degrade much.

The mandatory two stops changes that. Pit early, get the two stops out of the way, then there’s a red flag or a safety car. It’s risky but they should roll the dice with at least one of the cars. You stand to gain a lot of track position on a track where it’s impossible to overtake and others still have mandatory stops.

For some it would be a sensible strategy for some.
Get one pitstop out of the way by lap 3 and wait for further advantage if a yellow or a red flag come out.
I think they should do it with TSU or with HAD/LAW to create a moving chincane towards Mclaren race.

That’s some lap from Lando. The best ever TBF.
Maybe this weekend will reset his Championship chances?

@sonnycrockett it was. Should be OK off the line. But could be a lottery with the double pit stops, wall skirmishes and the Mercedes and potentially Hamilton out of position on track.

Given that it also was a lap record, you are right, this WAS the best lap EVER over here :-)
Good job for Norris and yeah, it really should be a boost to his confidence and to his championship hopes.

Maybe Williams are planning early stops too – mediums for Albon who had row-3ish pace.

If I were Mercedes I would take a gamble and pit one of the drivers in lap 1. He will be then in free air and catch up with the pack in no-time. The others then will have a mandatory 2 stops left.
It might not work out, but just following the others will warrant a 0 point finish.

Ocon and Hadjar taking names, Hamilton out qualified Max, Lando his teammate. Pretty good day. Even Alonso getting a good foot in.

@Keithcollantine, it seems Hamilton’s grid position was not adjusted for his penalty yet.

I fully expect most of the drivers not in the top 10 to pit in laps 1 or 2. With the number of rookies and rookie-like drivers (I’m looking at you Sir Lancelot ) a red flag is almost certain to happen at some point which will be another change of tyres.
It represents the best chance for those outside the points to work their way into the points.
