  1. Another superb performance by perez!

That aside, surprised about norris not being able to drive the car at the usual level, hamilton super last sector, didn’t expect him to recover that much on verstappen, bottas (as a joke) had a horrible last sector, so I can imagine a “valtteri, it’s james”, *slams on the breaks to give 2nd place to hamilton*!

Ferrari were a bit disappointing, I think they had some better laps (barely) in q2 than q3, and russell was on track for p6 in q2 before the mistake, williams seems really terrible with wind, given latifi then did the same.

    1. Max didn’t have drs in the last sector

      1. And wrong gearing up out of turn 3.

  2. What is Sergio Perez doing?

    1. Perez missed the line on the final laps of Q1. Should have been higher up before that, but still not really his fault.

      1. Perez should already have been 0.3s quicker on his first run. Now he is eliminated by just 0.04s.

    2. Being more inconsistent than Valtteri Bottas but managing to get absolutely no flack for it…

  3. What a performance by Gio!

    1. Absolutely right! Not only was he P7, he was only a tenth off P4 and the Ferraris. Incredible stuff. Just like last season, he comes good as soon as his job appears to be on the line. Still, it might be too late for him.

  4. What side does the grid line up?

    1. @hahostolze The same as above, i.e., pole position on the grandstand side.

        1. I think Keith always lines the grid up as it would be in real life.

  5. I didn’t expect P7 for Gio. A good achievement, but race is another matter.

  6. To be on pole when your teammate is out of q1 is just GOAT

    1. Perez is a seasoned driver like Bottas.

We can conclude Merc is the superior car but Max extracts 0.3s where no one else can.

      1. 😂😂😂😂……

      2. I wanted to watch comedy today, instead I can read the comments here :-)

  7. Did Verstappen not use DRS (or could not) on his final lap? That’s pretty bad. Inag

    1. @hahostolze, I’m sure he did as per normal.

      1. He couldn’t open his wing there was a issue…

      2. @jerejj
He didn’t use his DRS and that was mentioned in the live commentary of Canal+ by Jacques Villeneuve.

        1. He did there was a technical issue.

  8. It was closer than expected in the end. The top 3 are as expected. But Gasly and Giovinazzi put in great performances. Latifi could not still out qualify Russel, even with a golden opportunity. The surprise was obviously Mclaren. As regards Perez, it seems he is only going backwards since the contract confirmation. Mercedes will have the upper hand in constructors unless Perez can get the job done.

  9. I hope both 33 and 44 get through the first lap ok, and we see a nice fight for the win tomorrow.
Surprised about Norris, let’s see if he can improve through the race.
Perez and Gasly are showing us one of two things:
    1) signing Perez for ’22 was a big mistake for RB
    or
    2) RB is seriously undriveable for anyone but Verstappen, for whose driving style it was obviously (and rightly) tailor made.
Maybe RB should look for a driver with similar style to Max.
I’m somehow seeing Alonso as a dark horse tomorrow, the sly old fox.

    1. I think this ‘Taylor made’ car for certain driving styles is a bit of a red herring. These drivers can and should be able to adapt

      1. Ricciardo has left the chat.

    2. Very strange tailor made as Max had also a lot of unstable issues with the car. It’s the driver who has to make it work.

      1. Gasly had every reason to try to adapt and as we see he is a very quick driver. He just could not get on terms with the car and the team from reports wasn’t interested in meeting him halfway.

  10. I watched the end of Q3 but I am not sure what happened to the Ferraris. Did they not come out for a final lap, or did they not get over the line in time?
    They seemed strong in Q1.

    1. I think it was just rb and merc sandbagging a bit

  11. Maybe they should get Gasly back at RB including his Alfa Tauri. Just repaint it.🧐

Dunno if anyone has picked up on this but Lewis’s fastest Q3 time was exactly the same time as Max’s first Q3 time.
