David Brabham

David Brabham, son of twice-champion Jack Brabham, made his Formula One debut – appropirately enough – with the Brabham team in 1990.

This came one year after he’d beaten the likes of Allan McNish, Mika Salo and Mika Hakkinen to the 1989 British Formula Three crown.

Unfortunately the Brabham didn’t serve him as well as it had his father and the younger Brabham did well to drag it onto the grid as often as he did.

Left on the sidelines for 1991, Brabham spent the following seasons racing in different categories. Then in 1994 he got a second bite of the cherry with the new Simtek team.

But in a torrid year with a dismal car Brabham carried the team after team mate Roland Ratzenberger was killed at Imola.

Although Brabham qualified for every race he was unable to continue in Formula 1 for 1995, prompting a switch to sports cars where he has made a successful living as a works driver for both Panoz and Audi.
