Hello everyone and welcome back for today’s F2 sprint race.
We’ve got Max Gunther on pole position ahead of Sean Gelael followed by Nyck de Vries. George Russell, who started poorly from the front row yesterday lines up fourth.
Yesterday’s race winner Lando Norris of course lines up eighth.
De Vries 3.7s faster than race leader Markelov on that lap but he’s 25 seconds and 12 cars behind. However that longer DRS zone could make his job of coming through the field a bit easier.
One point which doesn’t get discussed often enough about DRS is how the ‘DRS train’ mitigates against overtaking, which is the situation we have at the moment with the Carlins. Though Norris is looking racy…
It’s almost comical how slow the cars are now, it’s painful watching Norris trying to race Sette Camara but not being able to lean on his tyres at all.
Another Safety Car, this time for Nissany. Normally I’m not keen on the Safety Car appearing but I thought Albon was quite hard done by with his pit stop so good to see him potentially back in the mix. Not what Russell wanted!
Was that 5 stalls? They have to fix that. Literally a lottery for the drivers, they can’t do anything about it, pure luck. And 4 or 5 out of 19 is just terrible
We’ve got Luca Ghiotto and Louis Deletraz on the front row of the grid for the season-opening race. Next up are Nyck De Vries, Nicholas Latifi and Jack Aitken.
Dreadful pit stop for Latifi. There’s so little track practice in F2 and the teams have so little to do, I often wonder why they’re so poorly practised at changing tyres.
Hello everyone and welcome back for the Bahrain Formula Two sprint race.
We have Mick Schumacher on pole position for today’s race, by dint of his eighth place yesterday. He starts ahead of Jack Aitken, Nyck de Vries and Louis Deletraz.
Crazy start to the feature race! Ghiotto goes backwards from pole and gets hit by Boccolacci, Schumacher and Alesi off, Zhou leading, Safety Car deployed.
That start by Nick de Vries though was really something. Aitkin wasn’t bad, but stuck behind slow to get away polesitter Sette Camera. And now red flag with 4 people out on lap 1.
Hello everyone and welcome to RaceFans Live for today’s Formula 2 feature race at Spa-Francorchamps. There will be a minute’s silence in memory of Anthoine Hubert before the start, and I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing all the drivers today a safe race.
All set for an exciting start to the new F2 season with a lot of talented new names up front. Who’ll get off to a winning start?
Dream start for Carlin, Camara up from sixth to second behind Norris, who get a flier. Poor getaway by Russell.
De Vries up to second behind Norris – will we get a fight between the two McLaren junior drivers.
Merhi: “The clutch is completely [censored].” You don’t need to be an engineer to figure that one out.
So it’s fair to say Carlin have figures out how to get the new cars off the line…
DRS is way, way, way too powerful.
I’m just grateful they kept it off the straight between T3 and T4… probably one of the best sequences (for wheel-to-wheel racing) there is.
It’s already too powerful for F2, extending the zone for F1 makes it worse.
Norris is either destroying his tyres or destroying the field.
A look back on that dramatic start:
Russell Ricciardos De Vries.
Russell putting softs on now? We’re not even at half distance, surely that’s a big mistake?
Something loose at the back of Markelov’s car?
So if Norris and Markelov are this quick, what’s up with everyone else?
Markelov’s astonishing rise from the pits looks like it will deprive Carlin of a one-two.
Camara clinging to second by his fingernails.
Was quite a sight to look at though
Terrific win by Norris – report coming up soon…
Nice
Hello everyone and welcome back for today’s F2 sprint race.
We’ve got Max Gunther on pole position ahead of Sean Gelael followed by Nyck de Vries. George Russell, who started poorly from the front row yesterday lines up fourth.
Yesterday’s race winner Lando Norris of course lines up eighth.
As usual you can find the live timing link in the menu above.
De Vries takes the lead from Gunther. Markelov immediately up to third, Nottis has started well too and holds fifth. Disaster for the ART pair.
Something’s gone wrong for Norris, he’s very slow as he arrives on the main straight.
De Vries repeating Prema’s tactics from last year, pitting from the lead on lap 10. Now he needs to do a Leclerc.
Markelov leads Gunther, Sette Camara and Norris, who passed Ghiotto.
Prema trying the pitstop again!
another early stop for de Vries
De Vries 3.7s faster than race leader Markelov on that lap but he’s 25 seconds and 12 cars behind. However that longer DRS zone could make his job of coming through the field a bit easier.
That onboard with Markelov looks painfully slow.
Wow he’s 10s slower than Norris’s pole time.
De Vries will need the leaders to start fighting with each other if he’s to catch up with them. Not enough time to catch up….
Mind you, Gunther’s troubles will help him. I reckon he can get a podium out of this, but Markelov looks to have done enough to get the win.
Sette Camara is pretty handy with defending
Absolutely empty grandstands :/
Thanks for joining us all, here’s the race report:

We’ll be over on the F1 page shortly for the build-up to the grand prix!
Predictably bonkers opening lap. Plenty of stallers but with the SC and nature of this track, they’re far from out of it…
F2 living up to its billing on lap one, Safety Car out after Ghiotto crashed. This is great news for Norris after his stall, he’s up to 13th already.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0C8hE9u_Gs
Ghiotto crash
Wow Maini not happy.
Deletraz had to go to the Medical Centre after that crash, the FIA confirmed he is fine.
Another Safety Car, this time for Nissany. Normally I’m not keen on the Safety Car appearing but I thought Albon was quite hard done by with his pit stop so good to see him potentially back in the mix. Not what Russell wanted!
Nissany crash
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHL-2LEiX4Y&feature=youtu.be
Have to feel sorry for Russell there. He’s been Wickens’d.
Albon easily passes Fuoco, who doesn’t seem bothered in the slightest about losing the lead of the race with four laps to go.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvlS4-L16Gk&feature=youtu.be
Markelov retires
What a race, F2 never disappoints. Who would’ve predicted that top 3 at the start of the weekend?
Race two for the F2 drivers coming up now with Roberto Merhi on pole position.
The wind has arrived as forecast.
Another crazy start, drivers really struggling to get their cars off the line. Sette Camara is on fire, up to the lead already at the end of lap one.
Was that 5 stalls? They have to fix that. Literally a lottery for the drivers, they can’t do anything about it, pure luck. And 4 or 5 out of 19 is just terrible
Luckily most of them were at the back. But year, a quarter of the field not getting away isn’t great.
There’s a lot of frankly not very interesting DRSing going on in this.
Clever use of DRS by Sette Camara to regain the lead there.
Sette Camara gotta be impressing some teams, he’s excellent
Great win for Russell, I have to say I didn’t really get into that race it was a bit like watching a motorway.
Round five is go in Spain and we could be in for drama here as rain is beginning to fall.
You know you’ve got a race on when the leader is chucking pieces of debris out of his cockpit…
…and now he’s being investigated for it!
Hello everyone and welcome to RaceFans Live for the F2 feature race in Monaco.
Albon on pole again, Norris well down and no Sette Camara at all following his hand injury yesterday….
Well, that was a quick SC.
Took longer than usual for F2 at Monaco, I thought…
Heh
Terrible move from Fuoco, fully deserved penalty.
Definitely.
Wow Russell’s binned it. He’s normally a pretty safe pair of hands. Not had much practice though.
I would have guessed Norris would, making up some of/compounding his error from yesterday.
He’s come out behind Gelael after his pit stop so he’s going to have to make a move to have a chance of getting that reverse grid pole.
Gelael’s racing line is horrible in places, especially Piscine. And he appeared to ignore the pit exit warning light on the start/finish straight.
More than a little optimistic for Norris there I think.
So, not with Galeal yet, but only a little later. Penalty would not be surprising.
… but I guess Norris can rest easily, he might still be the only one of the championship guys to get points today.
Bizarre incident with Albon and De Vries, don’t think De Vries can be blamed there.
I’d say if anyone is to blame, it’s Albon who should have checked his mirrors before steering into the pits and de Vries. Odd racing incident.
So Fuoco is on course to win this one which seems rather unjust given what happened on the first lap.
Surely the guys around 2nd/3rd need to start pitting to cover Norris if they want to get reverse grid pole?
Looks like they now sort of did; Aitken just ahead, right?
Argh, my timing is slow, he’s behind isn’t he?
He is. Think they could’ve avoided that…
Aitken’s done his best middle sector, let’s see if he can jump Maini.
In fact he’s done the fastest lap of the race but Maini’s out ahead of him and Norris, who looks more circumspect this time.
So, apart from that one move by Galeal (I think?), was there any other successful overtake today?
Markelov again proving he’s a master of running to the times, while being quick
Another somewhat fortunate Monaco win for Markelov though credit to him plenty of others made mistakes and he didn’t!
So unlucky for Russell :(
Looks like a good track for racing tbh. Not quite as worried about today’s F1 race than I used to be.
The F2 feature race is go from a rolling start at the Red Bull Ring.
F2… Worst. Commentators. Ever.
Well that’s that then
Hello everyone and welcome to RaceFans Live for the first race of 2019 in Bahrain!
We’ve got Luca Ghiotto and Louis Deletraz on the front row of the grid for the season-opening race. Next up are Nyck De Vries, Nicholas Latifi and Jack Aitken.
Ready to watch F2 coverage with RaceFans.net!
Dreadful start for Ghiotto. Deletraz leads from Latifi, De Vries and Aitken. Ghiotto down to sixth behind Matsushita.
Schumacher sees off Aitken at the start, then Aitken, Deletraz and De Vries tangle, all good for the Prema man.
So it’s Schumacher, Sette Camara, Latifi, Ghiotto and Deletraz at the end of lap one. Aitken down to eighth.
Where’s Valsecchi? :(
Sette Camara gets by Schumacher for the lead at turn one with no trouble. Ghiotto then demotes him at turn 11 and Latifi does the same at turn one.
Schumacher loses out to De Vries next, he’s down to fifth. Meanwhile Ghiotto has taken the lead and is two seconds clear.
Daft move by Correa, thumping into the back of King after being passed at turn four.
These races are the first two ever broadcast in Canada. I can’t believe the show F2 puts on.
Keith, any idea what a top F2 budget would be for a full season?
For a driver? Last I heard (and this was a few years back) was a few million Euros for a top drive.
Decent win for Latifi, made the strategic approach work. Very deg-heavy races as usual in Bahrain though.
Here’s the F2 sprint race report. F1 coming up next!
https://www.racefans.net/2019/03/31/ghiotto-wins-f2-sprint-race-with-strategy-gamble/
Hello everyone and welcome to RaceFans Live for today’s F2 race!
Carnage at the start – not sure what Schumacher was up to there.
A blooper reel moment for Schumacher, he’d been very feisty until then.
De Vries edging closer to Aitken and there’s still a long way to go, this ain’t over yet…
Safety Car period extended after Sergio Sette Camara and Luca Ghiotto tangle at the restart.
Great job by Aitken, prevailing in a classically chaotic Baku F1 race.
Here’s the feature race report:
https://www.racefans.net/2019/04/27/aitken-beats-de-vries-in-action-packed-baku-feature-race/
Go Micka
Hello everyone and welcome to RaceFans Live for the Formula Two sprint race from Baku.
What was Johnny Sherbert calling Aitken yesterday?
No idea. ‘Race winner’?
Think he was mispronouncing it from what the commentators were saying. Aitken having a blinder so far
Gelael nabs the lead at the start, good start from Aitken too, but we’re straight into our first Safety Car of the day.
Aitken being very cautious with Correa after taking fourth. Latifi up to second.
I imagine the marshals at turn seven are booing the race leader every time he passes…
https://www.racefans.net/2019/04/26/f2-driver-gelael-disqualified-for-knocking-marshals-down/
Gelael and Mazepin reversing their way out of the front-running positions.
Aitken: “DRS has failed again.”
SC?
Harsh on Latifi he was gone
Aitken had a good run on Correa there but it didn’t work out for him.
Could take a while to clear this up.
I don’t get why marshalls aren’t equipped with jack’s and wheelie boards. The truck seems excessive when they could just wheel it round the corner
Race control need to red flag this so we can actually get some more racing in.
Yeah this is over :(
I stand corrected :)
Glad they got a few laps in at the end. Decent win for Latifi, though I bet Aitken reckons he could have had him…
https://www.racefans.net/2019/04/28/latifi-survives-late-restart-for-f2-sprint-race-win/
Crazy start to the feature race! Ghiotto goes backwards from pole and gets hit by Boccolacci, Schumacher and Alesi off, Zhou leading, Safety Car deployed.
Davide Valsecchi – he really ruins commentary for me.
And it’s another win for Latifi – here’s the race report:
https://www.racefans.net/2019/05/11/latifi-extends-championship-lead-by-passing-zhou-to-win/
Good job by the marshalls 👍
Well, close between Latifi and Ghiotto, but de Vries well ahead of them.
Oh, and off screen (well, timing), Ghiotto gets himself closer to de Vries with another super middle sector, 2nd in the session.
Hello everyone and welcome to RaceFans Live for the F2 feature race in Monaco.
Bit of a half-hearted lunge by Schumacher on Calderon, and a lengthy red flag as a result.
The race is go again after the interruption.
Schumacher hit with a five-second penalty and a drive-through penalty.
Rehash of Monaco?
Anyone else here?
Hm, Schumacher elimited there I think – sorry for the RTL.DE guys looking forward to him showing something good this weekend.
I mean, yeah, still going, but that floor will be looking like Leclerc’s Monaco one I suppose.
Yeah, predictably into the pits and out.
That start by Nick de Vries though was really something. Aitkin wasn’t bad, but stuck behind slow to get away polesitter Sette Camera. And now red flag with 4 people out on lap 1.
Great race from de Vries. Too bad he fell back from the lead in the beginning of the race
hi
Hello everyone and welcome to RaceFans Live for today’s F2 race.
After the sad events of Spa, here’s hoping for a safe race today.
some good racing in this race between zhou/schumacher/ilott
Coitus interruptus, the race.
Wanna watch it… Buy how?
Youtube streaming.
When is the feature race starting today?
That… feels like a parade for formation laps so far.
Hughs said it right Lawson ran straight in to him
What was that trident driver doing?
using his team mate’s car to slow down his car instead of using his brakes
wow that was some amateur driving from Nissany just then, lol. torpedo’d into the side of his team mate
so far Jehan Daruvala has been disappointing.
Now lundgard
That looks like Ghiotto’s mistake taking out Lundgard
Tyre deg is looking really bad on most of the cars.
Great start by Schwartzman
Both Premas are in trouble with tyres. Ilott is flying meanwhile
Hello everyone and welcome to RaceFans Live for today’s Formula 2 feature race at Spa-Francorchamps. There will be a minute’s silence in memory of Anthoine Hubert before the start, and I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing all the drivers today a safe race.
Tsunoda made a great gateway
@chaitanya …and drugovich a bad one
Bad race for him, his teammate just drove over his front wing.
Nice tribute by grid to Hubert.
Mazepin acting like sore loser
Armed robbery
Thanks for joining in everyone, here’s Hazel’s race report:

And Mazepin’s under investigation (again):

Hello everyone and welcome to RaceFans Live for today’s F2 sprint race at Spa.
Several penalties were dished out after yesterday’s feature race, you can find detail sof them all here:
https://www.racefans.net/2020/08/29/mazepin-given-suspended-grid-penalty-for-potentially-dangerous-post-race-incident/
Problem for Vips immediately who fails to get away.
Ticktum and Nissany in the world’s most predictable collision there.
How are they allowed to race?
Tsunoda and Ticktum might have penalties coming their way.
Astonishing stuff by Ticktum to make the re-pass with a broken front wing.
He will be swamped into Les Comb now.
Mazepin and Ticktun going backwards already.
Oppurtunistic overtakes by Mick today.
Ticktum is weaving on straights it might not end well for chasing drivers.
Ticktum gains advantage by cutting corner.
Stewards are having a busy day once again.
Daruvala’s day goes from bad to worse.
Cool
Great overtake by Ghioto and Mazepin.
Ilott’s momentum from his Silverstone win and Barcelona pole has been obliterated.
Thanks for joining in everyone, here’s Hazel’s race report:
