Some glorious retro and modern footage from the Le Mans 24 Hours in the official promotional video for this year’s race:

Had already seen it. It is quite briliant. I love the retro footage.

At 0:30, do I spot one Jacques Bernard Ickx walking across the track while everyone else ran?

Probably. In 1969, he walked across the circuit and took his time doing up his belts, because he did not like the system of running across the track and jumping into the car. He was the last car to leave the start (but went on to win). At the time, drivers saved time by leaving their safety harnesses undone until they got to the Mulsanne, and Ickx’s fears were sadly not misplaced – John Woolfe was killed when he crashed his Porsche 917 at Maison Blanche because he had not done up his belts. From 1970, drivers were allowed to start on the grid with their belts buckled.

Of course, I was just surprised that they actually had the clip somewhere in the archives. :)

At 1:35 they interestingly look like they’re using footage of the famous Mercedes CLR crash, without actually showing the main bit.
