This is meant to be a discussion of the sportscar/prototype/endurance racing cars you like the most. I’m expecting a lot of love for the the 787B from what I’ve seen on the site before.
So what cars do you love and why? It could be any reason- dominance, being fast but fragile, being an underdog, a favourite brand, beauty/striking, obscurity, maybe simply the colour scheme.
To start things off, I particularly like the Gt40 replacement, the P68 (also known as the F3L), ever since I first saw it at goodwood. I love the dimensions, the Gold Leaf livery, the beautiful curves and the massive obscurity that comes as a result of it being a failure:

Here you can also see the P69, the open-top development with F1-style experimental axis-mounted wings.14th October 2011, 12:15 at 12:15 pm #182421Dan ThornParticipantYou expected correctly! I’m a huge fan of the 787B. It’s one of my favourite racing cars of all time, never mind endurance racer. Beautiful, Iconic, and that noise…Wow!
Also I have a soft spot for the beast that is the Alfa Romeo 33SC12 http://www.motorbase.com/pictures/contributions/990720//std_76_alfa_romeo_33_sc_12.jpg and the Matra MS670, which produces a wonderful noise: http://m.blog.hu/au/autohistory/image/Matra/72lm14b%20Cevert-Ganley%20Matra%20MS670.jpg
14th October 2011, 12:33 at 12:33 pm #182422matt90ParticipantAnd I always liked the very similar TT 12 (also from Goodwood)

14th October 2011, 12:57 at 12:57 pm #182423Dan ThornParticipantYeah the TT12 is cool as well (hence why my profile pic is me next to one at Goodwood this year! :P)
I also like the Peugeot 905 https://www.racefans.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/peugeot905.jpg
14th October 2011, 13:12 at 1:12 pm #182424Yaya IshaqParticipantDo GT cars count? If so, i love the Panoz GTR-1 and its ”Batmobile”look. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6a/Panoz_GTR1.jpg/800px-Panoz_GTR1.jpg
14th October 2011, 13:48 at 1:48 pm #182425BasCBParticipantAw, so many nice cars, I cannot choose one :-( I will have to think this over, but its a great subject!
14th October 2011, 14:04 at 2:04 pm #182426STSCMParticipantGreat topic! Kinda grew up with the GT40 but the car that got my total attention back then was the 917. The Audi R18 is starting to rub on me much the same way.
14th October 2011, 15:38 at 3:38 pm #182427Bleeps_and_TweaksParticipantI’ve got a quick few here that some people might be familiar with:
1. Alfa 33/2 Daytona (Le Mans) – outclassed by the Porche’s of it’s era, but stunning to look at:
http://straightspeed.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/alfa-romeo-33-2-daytona_3.jpg
2. Mercedes CLK LM or GTR road version – I saw the GTR at Mercedes World recently, and it is by far the most ridiculous road car I’ve ever seen!!
http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/images/large/1082/Mercedes-Benz-CLK-LM_4.jpg
3. Gulf Porsche 917 – I’ve recently invested in a copy of ‘Le Mans’ on Blu Ray, so I’ve got to put this one in here! It’s got to be up there with my favourite colour scheme ever:

14th October 2011, 17:30 at 5:30 pm #182428DamionShadowsParticipant’69 GT40 #6 is my favorite race car EVER! Just about every car named so far would be high on my list along with the R10 and R15+, Ferrari 330 P4 and 333 SP, and the awesome looking Bentley Speed 8. As for some cars that have yet to get some love, the Sauber C9 Mercs in all their silver simplicity, as well as the Chaparral 2J, the one with the v-twin powered fan and side skirts that sucked it onto the track.
14th October 2011, 17:50 at 5:50 pm #182429matt90ParticipantDefinitely agree with the Speed 8 and the Panoz.
From a little further back I have to say the Aston Martin DBR1 and ferrari 250 GTO 62.

14th October 2011, 19:47 at 7:47 pm #182430Magnificent GeoffreyParticipantDAT ROTARY
14th October 2011, 20:47 at 8:47 pm #182431DaveDParticipantIf we’re going with all time favorites, I’m a huge fan of the 917’s. Those top speeds at Le Mans back in the day would have been stunning to see. These days, I like the 908’s…although the Audi’s are starting to grow on me.
In the GT class, I’m still in love with the GT40! It was fun to see the Robertson’s running the throw back at Petite Le Mans still.
And I have to admit I always loved the Mercedes CLR-GT1. Who cares if it had a tendency to crest a hill and just….keep on rising LOL Other than that, it really was a cool car. :-)
14th October 2011, 21:31 at 9:31 pm #182432S.J.MParticipantIm a massive fan of mid/late 60s endurance cars,

Chaparral 2F
Porsche 95614th October 2011, 23:21 at 11:21 pm #182433STSCMParticipantSaw the great video of the rotary above, here’s two vid’s I watch almost nightly. Yes, I have a problem. And yes, the wife would agree with you…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gvuUTiBtho
I like the part where the 917 is about ready to eat the GT40:)
And this, actually a 956, but it’s on Lemans before they added the chicanes. Speed rules… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KafugzkqHmk&feature=related16th October 2011, 9:32 at 9:32 am #182434Adam TateParticipantFor modern cars, I Love the Speed 8!! Just incredible.
I really liked the Viper GTS/Rs of the late 90’s as well.Going older, the GT40’s, 917’s, 956-962, 787B….pretty much anything of the Group C era is incredible. I’d love to see how they would truly compare to the modern LMP1 machines in a head to head race.
Going even further back, I think the long nose D-Type might be the prettiest racecar ever built.
If you want a good book on Le Mans, read Go Like Hell by AJ Baime, it’s fantastic.
