ParticipantCan’t help but feel they’ve messed up here
You do know that Codemasters is not a big studio, and they don’t have unlimited resources, right? They have said that they have found that 90% of people use the chase camera, and only 5% of people use in cockpit view. Why waste all that time and effort and money on something that only 5% of people are going to use? Sure, it makes the gameplay experience better for you, but the standing majority of people won’t get anything out of it. From a purely business perspective, it’s the right choice.

ParticipantThey had enough resources to add cockpit view to all their other games. If they don’t mind losing that 5% of their potential customers (that including me), then so be it, but its a shame.

And they still have those resources available. But because they feel that too few people use the cockpit view to justify its inclusion, Codemasters have redirected those resources to other areas of the game to make it better.

ParticipantI’ve played GT3-5, Forza 2-4, DIRT 2 and 3, and GTR Evolution (Race 07 with expansion packs). It’s not that GRID is any better or worse, it’s just different. I can understand why people like the cockpit view, because I use it in Forza 4 and GTR Evo. But it’s a shame that it comes down to that when GRID was never really a sim-racer anyways. I mostly play Forza for an “all around” experience, GTR Evo for a “serious” approach, and GRID for when I want to see how many P2 cars I can pass in a Corvette C5R around Spa :D. If GRID 2 is anything like its predecessor, then I could handle not have a cockpit view.

I think you’ll find that they’re one of the biggest if not the biggest independent video game producer and developer in the UK, and possibly Europe.

ParticipantPersonally I think Codemasters are doing a great job at the moment, especially with their decision to focus on the racing games after their unsuccessful shooting games of recent (Operation Flashpoint).
Their F1 games have been fantastic, same with the Dirt games (although Dirt: Showdown was not as good), and now they’re working on Grid which covers near all genre’s of racing. Don’t forget F1: The Online Game is free to play too.
I am looking forward to Grid 2 next year, on PC of course.
