I love Jordan on the BBC coverage, he’s usually the one who is prepared to rock the boat and say what the fans are thinking (even if he does get muddled sometime). He’s entertaining, and fun. Most of the stick he gets (shirts, talking about Jordan), is actually the fault of Jake, who insists on dredging it up every time he speaks to or introduces him. Jake has become the weak point in the coverage lately, he seems to be getting a bit stale, whereas in 2009 he was very much the man holding it all together.

And I took Ted’s line “Thank you for watching and I’ll see you next year” to be a farewell, rather than a “I’m staying here” line.

    @hairs
I dont know, he didn’t say anything specific about the BBC and to say ‘I’ll see you in 2012’ would be a bit presumptuous if he’s moving to Sky. That might just be wishful thinking on my part though, I think Ted is one of the strong points of the F1 coverage along with MB, I cant imagine anyone doing a better job.

Reading the news here it sounds like the BBC is falling apart. I hope they get a decent commentator in for Brundle. Maybe Nigel Mansell as a former F1 driver but I guess it won’t happen.

I’m in Australia, and I’m just wondering which coverage we’ll get, the Sky or BBC coverage, do you guys know what the international english feed will be?

I don’t like any of this, everything being split. It just seems wrong. And also incredibly American where different TV networks share the rights of the IndyCar, with different commentry teams, presenters, and presentation formats.

I hope Eddie stays too. I don’t always agree with what he says, but then I don’t always agree with DC or Brundle either. That’s probably because I don’t like hearing my favourite drivers/teams criticised in any way.
If Eddie does stay I hope he’s treated with a bit more respect by the rest of the team. I don’t get any pleasure watching the others bully him, even if they pretend that it’s all in good fun. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he left of his own accord.

As I mentioned on one of the countless other threads yesterday, Jake has just friended Ben Edwards on twitter, don’t know if anything should be read into that?

I still don’t think a common commentary feed would work with Sky, they like to mention their own name every 20 seconds. If they are doing their own thing I think Edwards would be an excellent choice for BBC.

Does anyone know if the Sky coverage is going to be riddled with adverts?

I don’t like the idea of having to pay so much for F1 coverage on Sky, but what really gets my goat is that Sky love to pepper all their first-party channels with sponsors and advert breaks of almost American preportions on top of the already stupidly over-inflated subscription fee… not so much rubbing salt into viewers’ wounds as chainsawing them a whole new set.

This actually makes me sad because I loved the DC-MB pairing this year, it was excellent imho… I also would love EJ to stay, because even though I don’t always agree with what he says he is extremely entertaining!!

@ajokay, Sky have said they will not show adverts during the races. Expect to see them just before the race, just after the race, between each qualifying session, and plenty of other times.

@estesark Yup… though so. Makes me feel even less bad about all the streaming of their broadcasts I’ll be doing next year.

From the comments at the Autosport awards it looks like Kravitz has gone and Eddie is off too. Scarbs would be a great replacement for Ted but I’ve no idea who they could get in to replace Eddie. One of a kind.

@Hairs most paddock sayings revolve around BBC showing the races under Sky’s audio – so the BBC races that are shown will still get whatever commentary and pit reporters SKy have.

Here’s something from last week about the BBC/Sky deal, which I hadn’t seen before:

“…the BBC have said that sharing F1 rights saves more than if they pull out completely from the original deal.”

Presumably the get-out clause in their original contract included a huge a financial penalty. That strikes me as exactly the kind of deal Bernie Ecclestone and FOM like to make.

That was hidden away in Ariel, the BBC’s staff “magazine” website. http://www.bbc.co.uk/ariel/16085246
