Hi F1Fanatics
I’ve been following the F1Fanatic site for some years now and I love it. As a dane and fellow countryman to Kevin Magnussen I feel its time to contribute a little bit =)
With Kevin’s (adjusted) 2 place in his debut race, I wondered: Whats the best ever formula one debut by a driver?
Simon
Always nice to see some new commenters :)
The best ever debut belongs to Giancarlo Baghetti, who won his first race: the 1961 French GP, driving a privately entered Ferrari. After that race, he never got close to that sort of success ever again.
Very cool. I love the kind of “randomness” of old-time grand prix racing =)
Any idea how many drivers achieved 2. place finishes in their debut?
Only three I could find (excluding Indy 500 and 1950): Karl Kling, Mike Parkes and Jacques Villeneuve. So K-Mag joins a select group :)

Got to nominate Giancarlo Baghetti:
Wow, thats a pretty exclusive club.
Great article, Keith. I love your work on this site =)
