Formula One has signed a new five-year deal with Fox Sports to extend its coverage until 2022.

Under the arrangement the Australian Grand Prix will continue to be shown live on free-to-air television while all other rounds will be live on pay television. Highlights of the other races will be shown free-to-air.

Formula 1, the pinnacle of motorsport, is pleased to confirm that leading international broadcaster FOX SPORTS will retain the rights to broadcast the FIA Formula One World Championship, as part of a new five-year deal that will run until the close of the 2022 Championship with immediate effect.

As part of this agreement Network Ten will continue to broadcast live free-to-view coverage of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix. Delayed free-to-view highlights of every other race will also be broadcast.

All remaining Formula 1 races of the 2017 season will broadcast live on FOX SPORTS and free-to-air. This weekend’s 2017 Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix will be broadcast live on FOX SPORTS and via the internet television service Foxtel Now, with the platform offering a two-week free trial of its service.

From next season, FOX SPORTS will air every Formula 1 race live.

Ian Holmes, Global Director of Media Rights, Formula 1 said:

“Following the recent difficulties at Network Ten, our first priority was to ensure that Australian fans of Formula 1 remained able to watch the Championship without interruption.

“I’m pleased to say that, having moved quickly, it is now guaranteed that anyone in Australia who wishes to watch the remainder of the 2017 Championship and next year’s Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix will be able to do so live on FOX SPORTS, or delayed via the free of charge service provided by Network Ten.”

FOX SPORTS CEO Patrick Delany said:

“FOX SPORTS will ensure Formula 1 fans in Australia can continue to watch every practice, qualifying and race live.

“And from next season, we will be able to deliver even better coverage with no ad-breaks during racing for every race on the Formula 1 calendar including the Australian Grand Prix.”

I was surprised to see that Ch 10 were broadcasting the MalaysianGP live FTA this Sunday as they also had Singapore live FTA. Ch 10 are of course in administration and about to be taken over by CBS so live FTA will become a thing of the past. Bye, bye F1, we had some good times and some not so good times, I hope we can still be friends.
