The topic of allowing wildcard drivers to participate in F1 races has surfaced recently following an F1 Commission meeting in London. In his Autosport article Jonathan Noble highlighted the financial and logistical hurdles involved in such a move. So how about assigning Dallara or any other chassis manufacturer the task of designing spec F1 chassis for a 5-round championship in which rookie drivers could participate? The cars could be run by Prema, Hitech or any other junior racing outfit, with all the drivers racing the same chassis with the same engine. It would be a great way for F1 teams to analyse how their junior drivers fare against each other. It could also provide scope to assess the car setup skills of drivers.
