ParticipantMika Häkkinen is my all-time favourite F1 driver. I’m not sure who is second, really. Maybe Jean Alesi – I used to have a big soft spot for him. I thought Lewis Hamilton was going to be a new favourite for me after 2007 and 2008, but I’ve been slowly going off him since then for a variety of reasons. I think I’d prefer to wait until the end of his career before deciding where he ranks in my affections. I’m also not sure how safely I can pass judgement on drivers who were in the sport before I started watching it, but from what I’ve seen and read, Niki Lauda has probably the greatest story in my opinion.
I’m not sure I’d be happy to call any driver a “villain”, but there have been some I’ve disliked over the years. Michael Schumacher was one of them, because of his rivalries with Damon Hill and, of course, Häkkinen, but also because of his controversial tactics. I was happy when Fernando Alonso finally broke Schumacher’s run of championships, but my opinion of him changed completely when he was at McLaren. The phrase “throwing toys out of the pram” could have been made for Alonso that season. My opinion of him hasn’t improved too much since then – I’m convinced he must have known about the Singapore scandal, he was given a victory at Hockenheim two years ago when team orders were still illegal, and he then gesticulated at Vitaly Petrov because he couldn’t overtake him in Abu Dhabi, even though Petrov had done nothing wrong – but I have to respect his talent. I think he is driving better now than he was in 2005.

ParticipantI’m convinced he must have known about the Singapore scandal
How can you be convinced when there is no evidence?
he then gesticulated at Vitaly Petrov because he couldn’t overtake him in Abu Dhabi, even though Petrov had done nothing wrong
To be fair, he had just lost a world championship. He had nothing bad to say about Petrov in his interviews afterwards, so it was just a heat of the moment thing. His frustration immediately after the race for me was understandable.

ParticipantHeroes: Lewis Hamilton, Ayrton Senna, Gilles Villeneuve, Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe Massa, Mark Webber, Heikki Kovalainen, Rubens Barrichello
Love-Haters: Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Martin Whitmarsh, Jenson Button (to an extent), David Coulthard (his affinity with Red Bull is disturbing to say the least)
Respected/Admired: Sergio Perez, Fernando Alonso, Alain Prost, Martin Brundle, Mika Hakkinen, Robert Kubica, Romain Grosjean, Juan Pablo Montoya, Nico Rosberg (his English is really superb for a German) the almost endless names of legends & pretty much all the drivers on the current grid apart from those listed in the Villains section
Villains: Christian Horner (all the time he’s instantly on TV after qualifying or the race), Pastor Maldonado, Niki Lauda (he called Hamilton mad), Toro Rosso & HRT (to an extent), Helmut Marko, Flavio Briatore, Jonathan Legard (GOD!).

Participant@slr – alright, “convinced” wasn’t the right word to use there. He hasn’t been found guilty of anything and I’m not trying to libel him. It’s just that, in my opinion, it seems unlikely that he didn’t know about it at all. Even if he didn’t know about it beforehand, I expect he learnt about it after the race and kept quiet. At the very least, I’ve never heard him criticise the team for it, which he could have done to improve the image of the sport and attempt to put some distance between him and it.
