With Catalonia poised to declare independence within the next few days, I was wondering where that would leave the Spanish GP. The Circuit De Catalunia, as the name implies, resides within the region. Would it continue to host the Spanish GP? Would there even be a spanish GP, or would it be the GP of Catalonia?

Spain has two other Grade 1 circuits – Jarez and the Velencia Ricardo Tormo circuit which hosts the MotoGP currently (not to be confused with the old street circuit which is well dead). So potentially the race could be moved I guess.

Obviously given the violence which occurred during the ballot, I suspect that the declaration (assuming it comes) will not be the end of the story. But it does obviously impact the world of motorsport.
