Participant@warfieldf1 Agreed on both counts. Also, I know Nick Fry has been at Brackley since 2005, but I haven’t really seen or heard from him since Ross joined in 2008. Kinda like the Yeti, really.
@SamS Here’s my wild theory: Paddy Lowe turned down a team principal position at Williams to (potentially) join Mercedes. With Lowe and Wolff gone, Frank Williams has a big gaping hole in his senior management (and, let’s face it, succession plan). And look who may well end up on the team principal market: Ross Brawn. So… Ross Brawn as Williams team principal?

Participant@journeyer. Brawn to Williams – that would be lovely symmetry wouldn’t it? Maybe even with Norbert Haug as ‘special advisor’! Williams with Mercedes engines?

Participant@timothykatz That will be dependent on whether or not Brawn and Mercedes part on amicable terms. If they don’t end well, I can see Brawn buying out Wolff’s shares at Williams for himself, while sticking to Renault engines.

ParticipantWilliams have gone to great lengths to talk about “succession planning”; Brawn would at best be interim at 58 yo whereas Toto was 41 yo……Toto has used Williams as a stepping stone and they will feel betrayed, its that sort of business at Williams…..i would love to see him at McLaren, esp as he is ex Ferrari

ParticipantMercedes are in the news every single day huh :( … Is there a remote possibility of Brawn and Lowe both staying together at Merc … Can brawn be demoted from Principal to an ” engineering expert ” ( I don’t know the structure… besides who does? :P ) kind of role with Lowe coming in Mid season …… is it possible ?

Participantdo you really believe that Mercedes will wait more than 2 years for this experiment to work? that for me is the main issue. If in 2014 Merc doesn’t win anything Daimler will pull the plug

ParticipantBob Bell, Geoff Willis, Aldo Costa, Mike Elliot, and now Pade Lowe. How many god damn designers do Mercedes need? Ferrari and Red Bull only have two each.
I imagine Mercedes-Benz spending over 1 Billion dollars over the next 2 years or so. If they fail to deliver by 2014, then I can see them pulling out of the sport. Hell, I’d think they would have pulled out of the sport if it wasn’t for Rosberg’s win in the pan in China.

ParticipantMcLaren has just confirmed that the role of technical director in 2013 will be taken over by Tim Goss (McLaren’s Director of Engineering) with immediate effect. Paddy Lowe will performing a different role in 2013. I think this pretty much confirms him going to Mercedes in 2013.
I see Keith has made an article of this: please comment here https://www.racefans.net/2013/02/25/mclaren-confirm-lowe-leave-year/
