Did anyone notice that Massa and Rosberg used different helmets during Friday’s test? Here is Massa running with his normal one: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-photos/6279/formula-1-test-in-abu-dhabi-19-november-2010/167814/#167814
But somewhere along the way he switched to a red one: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-photos/6279/formula-1-test-in-abu-dhabi-19-november-2010/167755/#167755
Then here is Rosberg using his normal yellow one: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-photos/6279/formula-1-test-in-abu-dhabi-19-november-2010/167803/#167803
But he switched to a black one: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-photos/6279/formula-1-test-in-abu-dhabi-19-november-2010/167827/#167827
Also, what’s the deal with the camera mounts in testing? I realize that they don’t have the yellow/red to distinguish the teams’ cars, which is why they are all black, but McLaren and Ferrari have huge periscopes coming out of theirs. I find it hard to believe that hardware like that is necessary to radio back the telemetry that they want to the pits.
Also, this HRT doesn’t even have a camera mount, which looks bizarrely unnatural to me for some reason: http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-photos/6279/formula-1-test-in-abu-dhabi-19-november-2010/167816/#167816
Looking at other pictures, it doesn’t look like the HRT had a camera mount for the Young Drivers’ Test either. Aren’t the camera mounts standardized and required because they are also where a crane would pick the car up from?

The cameras are all black because I think teams are running only one car, and anyway a driver at a time, so no need to distinguish. The periscopes I think measure speed or other data, and the cranes pick cars up from under the, how do we call it, hole beneath the camera. Here’s an example.

http://blog.schuberth.com/en/2010/11/24/photoshoot-in-abu-dhabi-sf1-special-edition-on-the-track/
Also, the periscopes on the camera mountings appear to have pitot tubes on top. This suggests to me that they’re measuring the amount of air that the car comes up against. They raised it to reduce the affect from friction on the car.
Thats what it looks like to me anyway, anybody else can feel free to correct me if I’m wrong
