ParticipantWOW, IN 2011 only 2 podium by anyone besides the TOP 5. God, that’s crazy!

ParticipantYeah it was the year of exhaust blowing, so no podiums for Mercedes. Seeing Australia 2011 Vettel’s pole lap was like something out of this world. It was almost like GE had come back or something!
I did think of a similar thing for this year and it shows how Lotus are strongly on for 2nd in WCC if they can stop the mistakes. Mercedes were strong in the middle of the year and Ferrari at the start. Lotus were too but slumped in the middle before the tyre change and wheelbase change for whatever reason.
What happens if you include 2009 as part of Mercedes? RB would be further clear I imagine as top team, but under that we’d have a good 4 team battle as at present, with two up and comers challenging the historically dominant McLaren and Ferrari.

ParticipantI think it’s interesting to note how many podiums Jenson has had in comparison to Hamilton and others, considering how bad his car has been this year.
I’d also like to add 2009 to the mix and see how it looks afterwards.

ParticipantWow, can really see how much more consistent Button was in 2011 compared to Hamilton (Button fan here) but more equal ’10 and ’12. Alonso seemed to be by far the biggest gap any teammate in ’11 & ’12.

ParticipantGood work, Sri Harsha!
Timtoo – Button was only more equal in 2012 because Hamilton had some rotten luck, but as you say in 2011 Button was super consistent.
A quite surprising stat is that there hasn’t been a 1-2 finish by a team other than Red Bull in three years. There have only been three 1-3 finishes by other teams since then: Ferrari – Spain 2013, and McLaren – Australia 2012 and Abu Dhabi 2011.6th November 2013, 2:28 at 2:28 am #244717Sri Harsha
Participant@Deej92 Thank you mate
I was working on 1-3 and 2-3 finishing too. Will update about that when i get time.6th November 2013, 2:59 at 2:59 am #244718Iestyn Davies
ParticipantInteresting how even only adding in 2009 (to complete this era of rules) throws up a lost manufacturer and a few retired drivers.. This was only a few years ago! But a long time in F1.. And maybe a legacy of the bad economy. Interesting how a drinks company is now only 10 podiums away from besting Ferrari and McLaren over the period…
McLaren lost a 1-2 in Australia 2012 from a safety car I seem to remember, and the same with Monaco 2013 for Mercedes, with a chance for 1-2 in China 2012. But apart from that, indeed Button was very consistent in 2011, his best season for McLaren. I have a feeling that despite his bad luck retirements in 2012, Hamilton has more wins than Button? Even if less podium finishes in their time together as team-mates.
From the team side, I think only Toro Rosso, Caterham and Marussia have not scored a podium in this period (also including the now defunct HRT), while surely Lotus will dominate 2-3 finishes simply from this year alone. It could be added that the two drivers Lotus are eyeing up, Hulkenberg and Maldonado, are unlucky to not feature more on the list, while Di Resta and even Sutil has come close too. Perhaps in 2014 they can join the list.
Here’s a question. Put Raikkonen at Ferrari for 2010/2011 (say while Massa recovers, or Kubica continues at Lotus). How many podiums does he score? Enough for 3rd place (bearing in mind others would lose some podiums in equal measure) in the driver standings? You would have to guess so, and that would put Ferrari mid-way between Red Bull and McLaren in the team list. The importance of having two top tier drivers cannot be underestimated… Hence Ferrari pairing them in 2014!
Alonso, like Prost and Mansell before him, will have gone up against two all-time greats (Prost 3!), and will probably come off his career having deserved more championships than he has been able to achieve.

Its a complete Hypothetical but i think atleast 10-12 Podiums over 2 years can be scored by Kimi. Also that will make the Life of Alonso a bit more tough. I can’t see Kimi moving over to Alonso in Germany 2010 which is Very crucial for championship. Also in 2011 Even though the Ferrari was not good enough to win Races it was good to score Podiums from Monaco/Canada Onwards and also add Lewis Nightmare season i really can’t see why Both Ferrari man can take the Podiums in turns. - AuthorPosts
