This sequence is only a section of a much larger pattern, I’m looking for the next name on the list:
Alex Wurz – 1997
Alex Wurz – 2005
Robert Kubica – 2006
? -?Is it a third driver to get a chance half-way through a season and score a point? In which case the next name would be Vettel – 2007.
@kevincucamest – not quite what I’m looking for I’m afraid.
HINT – the next driver in the sequence competed in all the Grand Prix that year (unlike the three in the pattern I listed).
Yeah I also then remembered about Timo Glock’s one-off appearance in 2004 for Jordan… Is it that they all had a podium finish as their only points-scoring finish that year? So the next one would be Fisichella – 2009?
@kevincucamest – that’s right! Drivers with their only points finish coming from a single podium in a season.
Fisichella is next on the list, with his 2nd place in Spa 2009 (where he nearly won) strangely being his only points finish all season. Interestingly, he nearly made the list in 2003 as well when his win in Brazil was only added to by a 7th place in Indianapolis.
