ParticipantGiven what we have seen in pre-season testing, I think we can now predict the grid in Melbourne.
I’ve heard that pace discrepancy from fuel can be up to 3 seconds, so this tells us that Red Bull won’t be on pole. However, Red Bull still have the best car, going by the cornering speeds in the last test, so should be heading up the Renault teams on pace with dual-tusked Lotus. But the lack of running for both (a hangover from pushing too hard in late 2013 for no real gain) makes a race finish unlikely. Renault’s crankshaft/vibration fix (due in the European season) can’t come soon enough for these teams.
Team order:
Mercedes
McLaren
Ferrari
Williams
Force India
Red Bull
Sauber
Lotus
Toro Rosso
Marussia
CaterhamThe only thing we can be confident in at this point is a Caterham being on the back row, and a Mercedes on the front, with all Mercedes in Q3 (likely with Ferrari). Red Bull will probably be at the sharp end again by mid-late season at the latest.
