Participantwill the upgrades to the cars in the game be visual as well as performance enhancing???. Eg the merc engine cover
I’d say it’s possible, but unlikely. Changes like that would require entirely new car models to be built, and the cars in the game were apparently finalised at the Spanish Grand Prix. That said, things like the Virgin shark fin and Renault F-duct may be included – but I wouldn’t be counting on it.

MemberWhat punishments are they, for say when you cut a corner? Do you get slowed down or drive through?
Will online play also have these rules.
E.G watching Hamilton and Jake you clearly seen Hamilton driving through coners and wasn’t punished, this will ruin the game IMHO

ParticipantFrom a rules point of view it’ll probably be the same as earlier F1 games and will give you the option to “turn the rules off” so you don’t get punished for things like cutting chicanes.

Participant1: Will you be able to have a Damon/Graham Hill style helmet?
2: Just how developed is the AI tactics? Eg: Do they pit their drivers in separate laps to avoid pit jam? How well do they respond to changing weather conditions? and so on.
Cheers Keith.

InactiveI’m a bit new to this gaming thing so please be patient with me! :P
Last year there was kers but I’m assuming that’s gone now? If so, will this year feature an F-duct?
In career mode when we start off in the small teams will it be realistic? I.e. will it take a stellar drive to get even a point in a Toro Rosso?
Last year’s game was good but once you got the hang of it it was easy to win miles ahead on even the hard level so will this actually be harder?
Will getting a set up slightly off or wrong realistically hurt your times?
On the career mode will you be compared to your teammate? And say, if you’re outqualified a lot will that put you under more pressure to deliver or is it only the races and points that matter?
Sorry if all of those are pretty thick! :D

ParticipantYes Steph the gaming career is said to be realistic. You start off in a new team and are expected to beat your team mate and finish the race. That is all.
Obviously if you end up at Ferrari/RedBull/McLaren it’s only then you’re expected to win the title.

ParticipantQuestion: When Racing online are cars performances all the same or do you have to race a McLaren or Red Bull to be able to be competitive?

Keymasterunless you at HRT then your expected to not hit your mechanics and pay for the team :p
will there be a sliding scale of payment for the HRT race seat?

ParticipantI’ve been following the game on a couple of other forums. A ot of these things have already been covered.
What punishments are they, for say when you cut a corner? Do you get slowed down or drive through?
It’s a speed penalty. The game limits your top speed for several seconds.
Will online play also have these rules.
E.G watching Hamilton and Jake you clearly seen Hamilton driving through coners and wasn’t punished, this will ruin the game IMHO
Penalties can be switched on and off. Most likely that the host of an online game will have control over the level of difficulty like that.
Will you be able to have a Damon/Graham Hill style helmet?
There’s been no word on helmet customisation.
In career mode when we start off in the small teams will it be realistic? I.e. will it take a stellar drive to get even a point in a Toro Rosso?
Yes. This isn’t a game where diving down the inside of the first corner and braking later than everyone else will net you ten positions. You have to fight for every tenth of a second.
Last year’s game was good but once you got the hang of it it was easy to win miles ahead on even the hard level so will this actually be harder?
Last year’s game was made for the Wii, which is far less sophisticated a console than the Playstation 3, XBox 360 and PCs. According to preliminary reviews from IGN and Race Sim Central (I think), you’re really got to fight. IGN in particular said they game in 24th and last in the handful of races they did.
Will getting a set up slightly off or wrong realistically hurt your times?
Yes and no. When teams arrive at a venue, they already have a very good idea of what their setup will be because their simulators are so accurate. This is reflected in the game by having a basic setup that will suit the circuit, so you won’t be able to run an extremely high downforce configuration somewhere like Monza. So you’ll be able to set respectable times without changing a thing about the basic setup, but if you want to be truly competitive, you’ll have to go all the way.
On the career mode will you be compared to your teammate? And say, if you’re outqualified a lot will that put you under more pressure to deliver or is it only the races and points that matter?
Yes.
Question: When Racing online are cars performances all the same or do you have to race a McLaren or Red Bull to be able to be competitive?
I believe car performance has been equilised for online mode. So even if the Ferraris and McLarens and Red Bulls have been taken, you can jump in a Toro Rosso or a Hispania and be competitive.

ParticipantAm I right in thinking that teams will develop over time, especially if they are putting in good performances with good drivers, so over the course of several seasons I could transform Lotus into a title challenging team?

ParticipantHow will they deal with multiplayer griefers? I loved Dirt but its almost impossible to do a full race without someone deliberately ramming someone off the road

ParticipantThat’s great news about set-up, in the old days I just guessed all the time except at Hockenheim, Monza, Monaco and Hungary.

The host will have the power to boot players after everyone votes.

Participantas an avid online racer, i just hope that they get this right.
for the game to be well received, it needs some clear options that can be set.
there are those among us that don’t want to spend hours working out how to control these cars, they want to slam the accelerator and drive without using the brakes, ala many other arcade style racing games, and then there are the rest of us that want a true sim, like Race07 or rFactor, where time spent setting up your car for specific circuits pays off in experience and practice.
I imagine that there will be SIM and ARCADE modes, that will cater for both styles. If not, then massive fail. I am definitely hoping for this to be a valid SIM, like the MAK-Corp F1 2007 mod fro rFactor and Race07, as long as the handling is such that it rewards the patient and willing, then i’m all for it.
Basically, if i jump in the car and set competitive times within a few laps without changing anything setup-wise, then i know i will have wasted my money. That’s not how motor racing works. If however, after tweaking suspension, working on camber and toe angles and adjusting downforce for bumps and chicanes i find the sweetspot and start becoming a challenger, then it will be fulfilling my need.
Given that this is a codemasters game, and as an owner of Grid, DIRT and DIRT2, i hold out little hope that the simulator aspect fo actually driving the cars will be anythign liek what it needs to be. Most people will play this with a controller (not a steering wheel) so the handling simply cannot be true to life, as there is no force feedback in the control sticks, therefore no way a player can really control the car properly, unless the game engine is forgiving in that sense.
I’d love to be proven wrong, but i think this will be a successful game that i play for a few weeks before i go back to real sim racing in Race07.

Participant@graigchq I imagine that you are correct in imagining there will be SIM and ARCADE modes but I believe that it will be based on difficultly level, i.e. beginner will be ARCADE with Pro being more SIM, Codemasters will not want to alienate the players who just want to be able to race the car without spending ages tuning it.
And also when you first jump in the car it will be mainly setup for the track and you can just customize it to how you like it.
