Here’s a great video of Ayrton Senna – referred to by his paternal name Da Silva – winning the Leinster Trophy race at Ireland’s Mondello Park in 1982.

Senna, in a yellow car to match his distinctive yellow helmet, went off on the formation lap (not shown) and at the start Joey Greenan jumped ahead of him and took the lead.

However on the third lap Greenan had momentary difficulty selecting third gear and Senna passed him on the approach to Duckhams corner.

Senna won 16 out of 19 races in FF2000 that year, won the British F3 championship the following year and by 1984 had made it to F1.

Brilliant video, did anyone else notice his name is spelled wrong on several moments as Ayreton instead of Ayrton.

I find it particularly cool that a soon to be one of the greatest drivers that ever lived, used to race around a pokey little circuit that is only a half hour drive where I live. Slightly trivial I know, but it’s still really cool.

Recognising the voice of David Kennedy who I’d hear commentating on the F1 (along with Peter Collins) when I first started watching. They were a good team together.

Thanks for posting this Keith. I properly enjoyed watching this. :)
