For the first time in Formula 1’s history, a budget cap has been introduced limiting how much teams can spend. Teams may only spent up to $145 million this year bar a few major exceptions, including drivers’ salaries.

The temptation to exceed the cap will obviously be high, as more money means more development which means quicker lap times. But F1 is threatening teams will severe penalties if they doo and are caught, including deduction of points and exclusion from the world championship.

Will that threat be enough to prevent anyone from doing it? Or is it only a matter of time until someone pushes the new Financial Regulations beyond the limit?
