Those who read this morning’s round-up will have noticed a story in The Guardian claiming Williams would be removing their long-standing tribute to Ayrton Senna in the form of his ‘S’ logo from their cars:

Williams just announced the following:

To everyone asking, the Senna ‘S’ is still present on our cars and won’t be coming off….. #neverforgotten

The story in questions was in The Guardian and the article has now been amended online with the following clarification:

This article was amended on 8 July 2012. The original said the “S”, a tribute to Ayrton Senna, had been taken off the Williams car. This is incorrect and the “S” remains.

On one hand it’s surprising that this detail was wrong in the first place. On the other hand I appreciate The Guardian owning up to and correcting their mistake.

Haha, all very strange. If it was the Guardian’s mistake, how come they quoted Frank Williams about it? (removed from the article, but thankfully it’s under the link on the Roundup page) Did they just make that up?! It’s possible Frank said it and was mistaken, or trying to boost Bruno – so this joins the things he never said about Marlboro and Ferrari…

There’s a reason why The Guardian is sometimes known as The Grauniad – they’re notorious for spelling mistakes. They once mis-spelt their own name.
