2015 Press Conference held at the Bahrain International Circuit for the 2015 Bahrain GP:

Press Conference at the Bahrain International Circuit for the 2015 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain GP

“Light Up Your Nights” is the Bahrain International Circuit’s official slogan for this year’s 2015 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. After hosting one of the most thrilling races of the year, if not in F1 history, the Bahrain Grand Prix returns to the spotlights as the fourth round of the 2015 World Championship. The Grand Prix will take place on the 17th, 18th, and 19th of April. Last year we were treated to 57 action filled laps under the newly fixed floodlights. This makes the Bahrain Grand Prix the Middle East’s first and only full Formula 1 night race.

In the beginning of the press conference we were shown a short video and relived the dramatic moments of last year’s sensational race. From Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg’s unforgettable wheel to wheel battle, to Maldonado and Gutierrez’s horrific airborne crash, our adrenaline levels were surely raised.

It will be the first time we see the new 2015 cars under the spotlights this year being the first night race of the season. “Last year was the most successful race in our history”, said BIC Chief Executive Officer Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al-Khalifa. “According to some experts in the Formula 1 field they’ve ranked it as the fifth best race in F1 history!” he added. The total number of fans who attended on race day is 31,000, and 85,000 during the race weekend. It has been the best race not only in terms of racing, but also in terms of attendance and revenues.”

“It will be hard to emulate our success from last year”, admitted the CEO, “but we are well-prepared as always and I believe we have put together a fantastic package of both racing and entertainment”, he continued.

“60 days to the Grand Prix, we are delighted to announce it has been a record year for ticket sales. We have managed to sell twice as much tickets this time last year. The Main Grandstand is already half sold out. This is a clear indication that the people enjoyed last year’s race and are coming back for more.”

There was not a dull moment, “The fans enjoyed the race till the end”, said Shaikh Salman as he took us back to the intense last minutes of the race.

The Early Bird promotion, which ran for two months, offered up to a 20% discount on the tickets had a tremendous response, revealed Shaikh Salman. It’s also a sign that the interest in motor sport and F1 is growing in our part of the world.

“The significant jump in our ticket sales compared to years past is a clear indication of how far we have come as a motor sport-loving nation”, he explained.

The Bahrain International Circuit has managed again to introduce a new concept for the annual pre-race buildup. Instead of limiting the campaign to specific areas, they’re going to launch the activities all around the island. The campaign is suitably called “Race Fever” and it will have four main events. Race Fever will kick off on March 20th with branded Jaguar cars touring the island with their promotional teams to give the public a taste of a Grand Prix. This event will end with a raffle draw on the 27th of March with a lucky winner of a brand new 2015 Jaguar F-Type. All those who have purchased their F1 tickets will be automatically entered into the raffle. Early Bird ticket holders will have double the chance to win per ticket.

This brings us to the third event that is the Red Bull X Fighter Jam motorbike show. “We are proud and happy to announce this collaboration with Red Bull”, said the circuit’s CEO. The event will be held in Amwaj Islands on the 2nd of April, and the event will be exclusive to the Bahrain Grand Prix ticket holders. This event will be held for the first time in Bahrain, and will provide fans of extreme sports a thrilling experience.

The last concluding event will be two popular concerts held on April 11th, a week before the Bahrain Grand Prix. The concert will be featuring the British pop band The Vamps, which are very popular specially among the youngsters. The talented Swedish DJ Otto Knows will take the stage afterwards for the second concert of the night. Again, only those with tickets to the Bahrain Grand Prix will be able to attend both concerts.

This year the Bahrain International Circuit has added a lot more value to the tickets. Ticket holders are not only going to experience the fabulous line up of events during the GP weekend itself, but also during the Race Fever events for a whole month before the race.

Moving onto the events during the Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend, there will be plenty to see and do both on track and in the F1 Village vending area. On track the support races this year will include the Formula 1 feeder GP2 Series. Bahrain will be the season opener for the 2015 GP2 Series Championship. The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East will be the third support race. The Middle East version is very popular in the region and features both local and International drivers. “This year we will see a Bahraini car and team participating”, pointed out Shaikh Salman. Encouraging local drivers and building the racing education is one of the BIC’s main roles in the region as the “first home of motor sports in the Middle East”.

Off track the Bahrain International Circuit is known for its amazing entertainment programs built for the whole family. Unlike other venues, the Bahrain GP is always known to be a family affair. Race goers have always enjoyed great entertainment programs from across the globe and this year is no different. For the first time at the Bahrain GP people will be able to go cross-country skiing! Yes, there will be snow in the middle of the desert! The Snow Village is a huge tent that will include a 10m X 10m ice rink, a 300 sq. snow garden, a 240 sq. cross country skiing area, a climbing wall, and a freestyle slide. Other than being a great way to beat any heat, it will provide an amazing experience for those who have never experienced snow before. An Ice Queen rink show and many other roaming acts and rides will provide a great environment for kids.

Those who are older will be able to enjoy the extreme rides, live stage concerts, and the highly popular F1 Game Zone. It has been a huge success in the previous years especially among console racing fans. When asked if there are any more surprises, Shaikh Salman said the musical concerts featuring International singers will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Maher Salman Al-Musallam, Gulf Air’s Acting Chief Executive Officer also a speaker at the press conference expressed Gulf Air’s pride in being the title sponsors for the 11th year in a row. “Once again Gulf Air is highly proud to sponsor this prestigious international sporting event. We’d like to thank the Bahrain International Circuit for the best collaboration.” As the national carrier, the Grand Prix has helped us put Bahrain on the map, which is part of our duty, he explained. “We have nothing but sincere wishes that the 2015 Bahrain Grand Prix is even more successful than last years’, and that it continues to flourish year after year”, said Mr. Al-Musallam.

When asked if there are any special fares or packages for airline tickets and GP tickets, the speakers both revealed that there will be attractive packages that are due to be launched within the next two to three weeks.
Mr. Al-Musallam also explained that the reason Gulf Air do not do a fly past anymore is because of the later start of the race which is scheduled at 6 p.m., “it is difficult to do a fly past at night”, he explained.

Tickets are available on the website http://www.bahraingp.com, by phone, and in the dedicated stalls at both Seef Mall and Bahrain City Center. For international fans, other than the circuit’s website, tickets can also be found online here:
