The 2014 Daytona 500 – LET'S GO AWAY
- 22nd February 2014, 21:40 at 9:40 pm #249562
It’s NASCAR’s opening and most prestigious race of the year, the Daytona 500!
If you think DRS is too artificial, then maybe the spectacle of 43 of NASCAR’s best drivers racing around in circles for three hours under the beautiful BRU BRU SKIIIIIIIES of Daytona Beach, Florida will get your racing pulse… er… racing.
But Mag, what IS the Daytona 500?
Basically, 43 drivers racing around a 2.5mile superspeedway mere inches apart from each other in a big pack at over 200mph for 200 laps.
Gee, Mag, I don’t know… Sounds like it could be pretty dull to me…
Anyone who could watch 43 cars racing at 200mph in a giant pack mere inches apart from it each other for three hours and find that boring is bored of life itself.
Will there be big crashes?
OK, sounds interesting. Who’s on pole?
No, I don’t know who he is either.
Well, who do I cheer for?
Anyone but Kyle Busch.
When does it start?
The race is on this Sunday (today). Coverage starts around 5pm UK time with the ROOOOORRRING STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAART around 6:30-7:00pm.
How can I watch it?
Well, unfortunately there isn’t a way to watch it on UK TV, but I will be providing a link to somewhere where you can watch it online just before the race itself.
Is there some sort of compulsory awesome music I should be playing in the background while watching this truly amazing racing spectacle?
I know that absolutely no one else cares about this race, but I’m going to be watching and posting along in this thread even if I’m the only one who does so. I hope those of you who’ve never watched the 500 before and don’t have anything else to do give it a shot, because you never know, you might actually enjoy it!23rd February 2014, 8:03 at 8:03 am #249579
Great Write-Up Mag, in fact it was your post last year that got me into NASCAR! Austin Dillon won last years Nationwide Series (NASCAR’s GP2)and is the first driver to use the 3 since Dale Earnhardt’s death in 2001, so it’s kinda a big deal to hardcore fans of the sport :P23rd February 2014, 9:03 at 9:03 am #249582
Pretty awesome finish to yesterday’s Nationwide race.
Let’s hope this year’s Cup race is a bit more like that and a bit less like 2013…23rd February 2014, 9:29 at 9:29 am #24958423rd February 2014, 16:58 at 4:58 pm #24962223rd February 2014, 18:10 at 6:10 pm #24962423rd February 2014, 18:27 at 6:27 pm #249625
Green flag imminent!23rd February 2014, 18:42 at 6:42 pm #249628
NASCAR’s ridiculous rules have already put me off this season but for tradition’s sake I will keep up with the 500. Go Gordon.23rd February 2014, 18:54 at 6:54 pm #249631
Things are fairly predictable so far. Everyone’s taking it easy in the early stages.23rd February 2014, 19:00 at 7:00 pm #249632
Those pit stops could have gone a lot worse. Nice 180 stop by that one guy.23rd February 2014, 19:06 at 7:06 pm #249633
Kyle Busch leads.
Booooooooo.23rd February 2014, 19:16 at 7:16 pm #249635
Great. Rain.23rd February 2014, 19:19 at 7:19 pm #249636
Race has been Red Flagged due to a brief rain shower.
Sounds like they’re hopeful that they can get back going shortly, though.24th February 2014, 0:33 at 12:33 am #249649Fer no.65Participant
Can I just point out how unwatchable American motorsport is? ads so damn constantly… I always bang on about it when I watch the big races (both 500s), but come on… really… Food, food, pick up truck, more food, insurance…
