ParticipantHi all,
I love drawing racetracks in my spare time, or in class, or any time I have a pen and paper. Personally, I think my tracks look pretty good, but I wonder what fellow fans think of my designs.
This one I’m particularly proud of. Please have a look and I’m looking forward to any feedback. http://i41.tinypic.com/wbarfo.jpg

Participant@Kingshark isn’t that just Bahrain but a bit ‘blockier’? :L
I did a nice redesign of Lydden Hill circuit (for any national motorsport fans) when I was about 12. Will put a pic up sometime :)

ParticipantI personally love your design @necrodethmortem! Kind of looks like an updated version of the old buenos aires circuit!
@ayrtonsenna01 – How dear you compare my masterpiece with Bahrain! Lol, yeah, it kind of does look like Bahrain. I think I need to be more creative. I’ll be posting a new circuit soon.
Oh btw, how do you guys design your circuit online? Because I simply create it on “Paint Documents”, then save it on photobucket.

Participant@Kingshark Mine is a scanned pencil drawing. Sometimes, when I feel like it, I draw a pline over it in AutoCAD and add everything else, like kerbs, runoffs, pits, marshall posts, contour lines etc. in seperate layers. But that requires a lot of time and some skill as well.
Now that you mention it, it does look a bit like Autódromo Juan y Oscar Gálvez indeed, even though my main inspirations were Suzuka, Spa and Interlagos.

Can I get some feedback? Like it or not?

Participant@Kingshark Well, honestly, I’m not a big fan of fixed radius corners. That’s the reason I draw my tracks by hand, so I can design flowing tracks, like in the old days.

ParticipantWell, you can easily create flowing corners with paint too, just takes more work.
My logic was to create a challenging first sector with a lot of high speed corners.
Sector 2 is suppose to make the cars come closer to each other.
The straight between turn 8 and 9 is specifically designed for overtaking, hence the harpin at the end of the straight.
The chicane of turns 10-11-12 is an imspiration of Ascari at Monza. It too, will bring the cars closer together, for an overtaking opertunity in turn 1.1st January 2012, 3:00 at 3:00 am #188295necrodethmortem
Participant@Kingshark You obviously have a different design philosophy than me. Basically mine is: if it looks good, it drives good. I try not to overthink the track design. Instead I make it fun for the drivers and if they’re having fun, they will provide exciting racing. If one lesson can be learned from Tilkedomes, it is this.

ParticipantI tend to use the Google Maps Pedometer to create circuits, largely because I’m not good at drawing. So, when it comes to these designs, bear in mind that I’m more concerned with the actual shape of the layout rather than the length or the location. Some of these will be up to ten kilometres long, but that’s not what I’m worried about.

Participant@prisoner-monkeys Love the old school way of thinking. Like I said, looking at all the great race tracks, you can judge how good they are pretty well just by their shape.
That Dubai course is truly epic, ridiculously fast!

ParticipantHere’s another one. Fresh from the presses: http://i40.tinypic.com/vpermb.jpg
Reminds me a bit of Road America.

I know it says 8.5km, but I imagine it would be about 5.5km instead.

ParticipantHere’s a refreshing track, it’s anti-clockwise.

ParticipantI’m not a fan. A lot of the corners look the same or very similar.
