ParticipantGreat part of this interview. What a sense of humor! I was watching this race live with my father and it was the first time I ever had the drop in the pit of the stomach feeling. I remember saying to my dad, “he’s dead isn’t he?” My dad said lets just wait and see. The amount of time it took for them to get to the car seemed like an eternity.

especially 1:53, go on son!Nice to hear the commentators into it as well. Nowadays Crofty would probably say, “Well, that is certainly not the quickest way around the circuit.”

ParticipantI love Japan and the Japanese for many reasons, but one of em is for things like these. An old test of one of Kevin Schwantz Pepsi Suzuki 500cc bikes at the Suzuki test course. Who filmed this and why? I don’t know but it’s awesome. Comparing the sound of these bikes to the new MotoGP is the same as comparing the new F1 to older generations. Just no comparison.
When it switches to the on board view, at around the 2:00 minute mark, exiting the right hander, the roll on acceleration all the way to almost top end is just staggering. The short interview of the test rider at the end, you do not need to know Japanese or have subtitles to know what this guy is expressing.
(Whoever put up this video, they also have their own channel on Youtube. I started digging, and if you go into his playlists, he has hundreds of rare Japanese only short clips, demos, race reports from the late 80’s, stuff I had no clue about.)

ParticipantTarga Florio, The Speed Merchants. This is just part 1, the whole thing used to be up, can’t find it now. Real cars, real men, real roads.

ParticipantThe Derek Warwick RAW interview. Perhaps the greatest interview of any racing driver I have ever seen. This interview was from this year, so yes, doesn’t quite fit into the parameters of this thread, but, since 95% of it deals with his time racing all prior to 2004 I think it is a perfect fit.
Incredibly candid, emotional and tear filled at times, this is just him talking (with clips interspersed) and I can’t think of anything better done in this same style. Whoever this young guy is who is doing these RAW interviews, BRAVO!
You learn a thing or two about Senna, his younger brothers tragic short career, the kindness of Jean Todt (Yes, I know!!!) and the craziness of how Silverstone gets no help from the UK for the gp. Please enjoy this.
