Ben Needham commented on the post, Red Bull exceeded F1's $145m budget cap during 2021 season – FIA 7 months, 4 weeks ago
What annoys me the most is that there isn’t a black and white penalty in the rules for this. Why is it always open to interpretation? Why couldn’t they say, (for example), for every $10k you are overspent, you […]

Ben Needham commented on the post, Who will be left without an F1 drive when the final places are taken for 2023? 8 months, 2 weeks ago
I just can’t see where Daniel Ricciardo fits. Alpine don’t seem keen, which is understandable, as he does represent a big risk at a likely heavy price. Alpha Tauri is surely not worth revisiting having already […]

Ben Needham commented on the post, Should F1 and its teams lift the cap of 24 grands prix in a season? 1 year, 2 months ago
I wish there was a more hard option than ‘Strongly Disagree’! There are so many reasons not to add more races.
Firstly, what happens to the team members? They’re already stretched and rarely able to be home. […]

The instant respect I’d have for any team boss who simply refuses to bring their team for the rest of the weekend…
It was an unacceptable risk when they signed the deal, an unacceptable risk when they raced las […]

Ben Needham commented on the post, Will F1's rules revolution succeed? 20 questions for the 2022 season 1 year, 2 months ago
1. Will the series hit its target of holding a record 23 races on the 2022 F1 calendar? – I hope not… but I suspect they’ll find a way.
2. Will one team find a significant advantage over its rivals and win […]

Ben Needham commented on the post, Does F1 need a new race director – or deeper change – after Abu Dhabi restart row? 1 year, 5 months ago
Formula One needs to have a hard look at itself and decide whether it’s a show first, or a sport first. It’s clear to me that the rules were not applied correctly or consistently at the tail end of the season in […]

Ben Needham commented on the post, Verstappen expects Hamilton will return in 2022 to pursue eighth F1 title 1 year, 5 months ago
There’s a lot I could say about last weekend, but my overwhelming emotion is sadness that we’re having to talk about the FIA rather than two fantastic drivers who gave us such a thrilling season. What happened was […]

Ben Needham commented on the post, Hamilton says racing rules 'clearly don't apply to one of us' 1 year, 6 months ago
I totally agree and I hate the “let them settle it on track” attitude when one (sometimes both) does something dodgy. I have no question in my mind that if the Verstappen move on Hamilton in Brazil was someone lik […]

Ben Needham commented on the post, Hamilton says racing rules 'clearly don't apply to one of us' 1 year, 6 months ago
It’s hard to disagree with Hamilton. As much as I like Verstappen’s aggressive approach he just doesn’t admit defeat and seems to make no attempt to make the corner in order to maintain his position.
This is ev […]

I’d be interested to hear why you rate Russell as a struggler despite him outqualifying his team-mate by almost a second, then getting a grid penalty and still beating Latifi by a decent margin in the race. It was […]

Ben Needham commented on the post, Sold-out crowd of 380,000 at COTA shows F1 can add third US race – Brawn 1 year, 7 months ago
It’s great to see the interest in Formula One rising in the USA, but the calendar is very full already; what would this/these additional race(s) come at the expense of? The USA is certainly large enough to deserve […]

Ben Needham commented on the post, Packed US Grand Prix tipped to be "biggest F1 event in history" 1 year, 7 months ago
I’m here for the weekend and it’s very badly organised. Both parking and the shuttle service (all paid for in advance at sizeable expense) were appalling yesterday; taking some people 2.5 hours to leave after fin […]

Ben Needham commented on the post, Red Bull "desperately need" Perez to score more points 1 year, 8 months ago
They’re right to start putting pressure on. Aside from Ricciardo, Perez has disappointed me the most this year (interesting that they, and Ocon, have wins, despite an underwhelming season, while […]

Does anyone know whether Martin Brundle is gradually stopping? I know he traditionally misses one or two races a year for a break, but this year he seems to have missed about a third of them. It would be a real shame if so. Nico Rosberg seems to have been the best stand-in to me (out of him, Jenson Button and Paul di Resta). Annoyingly, Brundle…[Read more]

This could be a very interesting qualifying session (and hopefully race) if the red flags can be kept to a minimum!

Ben Needham commented on the post, F1 team mate battles at mid-season: Verstappen vs Perez 1 year, 9 months ago
I was 100% behind Red Bull bringing in Sergio Perez, because I thought he would be a steady and consistent No.2 to Max Verstappen. Unfortunately, I’ve been left a little disappointed with him as he hasn’t, so far […]

Ben Needham commented on the post, Why no one received a Grosjean-style race ban for the Hungarian GP pile-up 1 year, 10 months ago
I certainly agree that these accidents in Hungary can’t be likened to Grosjean’s crash in Spa which received a ban. This was prior to penalty points, on a dry track and the driver had previous and something needed […]

Formula One 1 year, 10 months ago
Wow – @banana88x with a great guess in March!
We seem to be getting some crazy races in recent years with strange results, but I’d still bet on Norris being the next new winner. Sainz is also coming closer and closer and seems to have settled in at Ferrari now.
Surely the next winner will come from:
Norris
Sainz

Ben Needham started the topic Mid-Season Rankings in the forum Formula One 1 year, 10 months ago
How would you rank the drivers performances at the mid point of the season? Here’s my list, with a short explanation of each ranking:
20 – Mazepin – A painful mix of slow and messy and rarely found ahead of Schumacher.
19 – Tsunoda – Too many weekend-damaging accidents. Flashes of brilliance but horribly inconsistent.
18 – Latifi – Has been…[Read more]

I thought Alonso and Leclerc were absolutely excellent and it was nice to see Ricciardo closer to Norris in qualifying and finishing position (perhaps not overall lap time just yet).
Perez was just nowhere all […]
