@ciaran Indeed. I’m not a WEC fan either but many drivers like it and the possibility of showcasting their talent there does no harm to F1, quite the contrary IMHO.
montreal95 commented on the post, Pictures: Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez ready for Mexican Grand Prix 7 years, 5 months ago
@ciaran That’s where you are wrong. Tilke does a bad job even when he’s given a nice terrain to work with. On autosport forums there’s a sketch that Tilke has proposed for Austin. It looks bland and boring and […]
montreal95 commented on the post, Pictures: Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez ready for Mexican Grand Prix 7 years, 5 months ago
@ciaran Why not? Tilke’s name is synonymous with awful tracks. This one is no exception. I hate this ruination of a classic track. The mickey mouse back section, the emasculated esses, the awful stadium section, […]
Patrickl commented on the post, Button 'to leave Formula One for WEC in 2016' 7 years, 6 months ago
@ciaran, Lol, I noticed that too. When I watched bits of Le Mans coverage they were usually more busy explaining how WEC was better than F1 instead of actually commenting on the race :)
I guess it’s difficult […]
Optimaximal commented on the post, F1 may have finally got its nose rules right 7 years, 8 months ago
@ciaran I think the key thing to take from this is the new lower, safer nose are a good idea/do work, but once again, F1 raced into the breach without anyone taking a step back and applying engineers logic to the rules.

@ciaran
Qualifying isn’t as big a deal in endurance racing, and as odd as it sounds, neither is single lap pace or outright speed.
You can have the fastest car in qualifying but that doesn’t mean you’re going to […]Key commented on the post, "F1 has ruined every track" – Bourdais 7 years, 10 months ago
@ciaran Minor error with “at least”. It was supposed to be “almost”…
And when I said bad tracks, I was following Bourdais point of view of too much run-off and so on… From my point of view, there are only 5 […]GeeMac commented on the post, Rate the race: 2015 Spanish Grand Prix 7 years, 10 months ago
Couldn’t agree more @ciaran.
People would have moaned even if Mehri had managed to pass Rosberg on the last lap to win the race while cartwheeling through the air on fire while balancing chainsaws on his fingertips.

@ciaran for a few reasons but the biggest is that they use way more powerful energy recovery systems than in F1. the combined ERS systems in F1 are equivalent to 2 megajoule, whereas the top category of LMP are […]

@ciaran Agreed.. I’d love to see the exact data comparison used and how this conclusion comes out! I thought it would be Perez or possibly Magnussen in 16th. But there are times when Vergne has looked anonymous this year..

Iestyn Davies commented on the post, Mexico increases 2015 F1 calendar to 20 races 8 years, 6 months ago
@ciaran True, but as the only US GP for the forseeable future, there is scope to grow the audience travelling in from the east and especially west coasts.

@ciaran, Malaysia does involve a lot more in logistics costs but the real question is how much should a track pay to get “bums on seats” ?
timi commented on the post, Ferrari seek solutions to turbo power shortage 8 years, 9 months ago
@ciaran I didn’t say I’d prefer a series like that, but the fan interaction combined with an interesting performance boost absolutely turds on DRS and MGUs. That’s what I’m saying.
