9.81 is an approximation, it varies depending on your location on the planet and distance from it but we digress. g-force is related to gravity only in that the forces are using it as an equivalent to provide […]

Ross commented on the post, Crucial Friday test for power unit salvaged from Verstappen's crash 1 year, 10 months ago
Engaging pedant mode: a phone dropping from 30cm could potentially experience g-forces in the thousands on impact. g-Force from an impact from a fall can be simply calculated by dividing the height by the stopping […]

Ross commented on the post, Pirelli confirm teams not to blame for Baku tyre failures following investigation 1 year, 11 months ago
Indeed, the teams need to take a significant share of the blame too. There have been many opportunities to resolve the tyre problem but as long as some of the teams believe that they can exploit what is currently […]

Ross commented on the post, Hamilton to finally start 2021 contract talks with Mercedes "in the coming days" 2 years, 5 months ago
@black, spot on.
One thing, the points in 2014 Abu Dhabi were double where Hamilton won and Rosberg had the ERS issue. So a more representative comparison would be 317::359Rosberg dropped the ball in the […]

Ordinarily your posts are spot on, but this is daft. Whether you agree with the decision or not, being instructed to do something and then […] -
Ross commented on the post, Why is Germany losing its world championship round? 3 years, 9 months ago
It’s only my personal experience and Spa is the only race I attend regularly but to my mind it could be renamed to be the Dutch GP such are the number of Dutch spectators and this was true before Max Verstappen […]

Ross commented on the post, Bottas "surprised" Hamilton beat his fastest lap on hard tyres 3 years, 10 months ago
Cracking lap from Lewis.
To be fair to Bottas, it was old softs that he switched onto. The best they had to offer was taken from them during qualifying. -

Ross commented on the post, Toro Rosso: Honda made a "fantastic step forward" in 12 months 4 years, 3 months ago
That might have explained year one, even two. But year three was a clean slate opportunity and they went backwards. Performance and reliability did not improve. Only Honda was to blame for that. Last year, freed […]

Ross commented on the post, 2018 F1 driver rankings #4: Alonso 4 years, 5 months ago
If you want a good demonstration of his talent, take a look at the stint stats from LeMans as @phylyp alluded to in an earlier comment. Over a single lap he was 4th quickest of the Toyota drivers, over a full […]

Ross commented on the post, 2018 F1 driver rankings #4: Alonso 4 years, 5 months ago
Nobody can ‘outdrive’ a car, they can only extract closer to the maximum.
1. Alonso is IMO one of the few drivers who does not need a teammate to push him to extract his maximum. Even Lewis who is close to […]

So Leclerc is in the top 3. In a car that was quicker than the Mclaren for most of the year, he often found himself racing Alonso and occasionally being beaten by Ericsson who on his best day isn’t talented enough […]

Ross commented on the post, Horner: Vettel's 2012 comeback shows he can still beat Hamilton to title 4 years, 8 months ago
@kingshark, using Webber as a yardstick is tenuous at best, in 2012 he finished 6th in the championship, in 2013 he did a little better but scored no wins to 13 by Vettel.
Anyhow, back to the races in question […]

Ross commented on the post, Horner: Vettel's 2012 comeback shows he can still beat Hamilton to title 4 years, 8 months ago
@kingshark, in 2012 Raikkonen closed to within potential overtaking distance approx for 5 laps, attempted a move once and that was it. Both pitted for new tires and thereafter a comfortable 2-3 second gap was […]
