A very good race! I would have loved to see Graham win, but Justin deserves it. Nice to see a team other than Penske or Ganassi win.

IndyCar put together a terrific set of rules for Texas. The cars had such little down force that they were a complete handful to drive. Sliding around constantly and lots of opposite lock corrections on the steering wheel.

I’d say they’ve found an aero package that eliminates the big packs, decreases the risk for the “big one”, and really makes the drivers work in the cars. Great to see.

Too bad that Seb won’t be able to run the remainder of the season due to engine supply. He should get better and better on the road courses that he will be running.

Rubens (surprisingly) looks like he will remain stuck near the bottom of the grid for qualifying. It shows the strength of the grid.

Can the YouTube link be watched from the UK, or is it restricted like the IndyCar link?

Spot on Joey. No ones going to give an inch on the last lap. I wish Sato could have pulled it off.

Some interesting comments from team owner Bobby Rahal http://www.racer.com/bobby-rahals-blog-we-went-for-it/article/243355/#

There’s always some very wild action on the last lap (2010 Conway air born, 2011 JR Hildebrand into the wall on the last corner)

Keep watching Damon, it’s the most exciting racing on the planet.

Still gutted for Sato! But he played with fire and got burned.

@ Mikemat5150 – I think the guys in the broadcast booth don’t know what they’re talking about. The turbo lag is very minimal. At the RPM they’re running, the turbos are basically fully spooled up. It doesn’t take a lap at Indy (2.5 miles) to get back up to speed.

@F1 Yankee – The cars need to be very strong to handle the stress of the ovals, which is very different than the road courses. A nice bonus with the new car is that they can take some bumping and banging and keep going. The Rear Wheel Guards really cut down on rear tire punctures. I don’t know if they’ll keep the cars on the ground on high speed rear impacts though.

Rubens said “Nothing in my racing life prepared me for those restarts,’’ admitted Rubens Barrichello, whose oval debut was plenty impressive as he ran in the Top 10 much of the day before finishing 11th.

“It was madness. Those last 20 laps were like jumping out of an airplane without a parachute but it was amazing to be part of it.’’ http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/indycar-an-indy-500-to-remember/P1

Terrific as usual, great drama. Glad no one got hurt.

Mike Conway has had a couple of wild crashes at Indy. The team didn’t see that his front wing was damaged after he ran into two pit crew members on his last stop. They should have replace the damaged front nose section which caused the crash.

I would have loved to see Sato win. He obviously thought his best chance was to get Dario on the first corner of the last lap, but he should have waited one or two more. The way the tow was, even if Taku would have made the pass I think Dario would have got him back. http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/indycar-franchitti-honda-wins-thrilling-indy-500/

Next up, Detroit GP June 3rd. Can’t wait.

Adam. Truly some of the most interesting testing writing ever!

I really look forward to reading some of your Indy 500 observations.

About 12 hours to go. Let’s get it on!

Very glad that Conor is OK.

Just the thing that IndyCar is trying to prevent with the Rear Wheel Guards. VERY bad things happen when rear ended at over 225 mph!

I wouldn’t doubt we see the Guards permeate other forms of Open Wheel over time to lessen the possibility of this happening.

One day to go! It looks like it will be the hottest temperature in the 500’s history. Who’s going to win the $3,000,000.00?

More information on the new video technology for the cars and race.

“80 cameras, including four on 12 different cars. ESPN will make use of dual-path technology, which permits views from two onboard cameras on the same car at the same time.”

    Should be very interesting http://www.indycar.com/en/News/2012/05-May/5-25-ABC-brings-innovation-to-96th-Indy-500
