A simple but likely very effective way of handling it. When faced with a ‘grey’ area of the rules the FIA/F1 must make efforts to clarify more effectively. This seems like a good start!

Absolutely agree with your suggestions.

GOAT discussion is nearly always fruitless because there are so many factors at play. Never has anyone throughout their career been in as advantageous position as Hamilton, to have racing winning-capable cars […]
Gary commented on the post, Verstappen was mentally tough from his first day in an F1 car – Tost interview 5 months, 1 week ago
Exactly. Mercedes have the edge, the W12 is the superior/faster car and has been for a number of races. Hamilton is also driving to his usual standard (compared with early on in the season when he was a bit off […]

@Robbie, I see what you’re saying and agree really. I’m not necessarily against Sprint races, and F1 has made some awesome steps forward too, so I’m still very much intrigued to see which direction the sport goes […]

Exactly my take on it too. The drive for more exposure, more fans, more revenue, can become a race to the bottom if not handled appropriately. The integrity of the sport – its depth of value – can become […]

The structure of a Formula 1 weekend is rooted in a more ‘old fashioned’ paradigm of building anticipation towards a big main event. The modern world doesn’t have the patience for that, we live in a society where […]

Yes, ‘miles off’ is a bit of a stretch, but the Merc is considerably faster until they hit dirty air. The McLaren is just a difficult car to overtake due to their great straight line speed (and top driving!), but […]

I don’t think that’s really fair to say. Hamilton did not think Intermediates were the right choice either, the team just pushed the matter – no driver can predict the future, and it looked for a very brief time […]
Gary commented on the post, How Mercedes left Red Bull unable to respond to Hamilton's victory charge in Spain 1 year ago
That’s not universally thought to be the case. Besides, if you have a faster car you don’t have to push it quite as hard which means the tyres are better looked after. In the first stint Max clearly had to push […]

Hamilton drove brilliantly, but it’s ominous that Max – with his exceptional speed – couldn’t pull a gap to Lewis who was running in dirty air. The Mercedes was superior around this track by some margin in racing […]

‘Barcelona’ and ‘interesting race’… they really are a combination that rarely go together. Let’s hope Sunday brings something different!

Max was two tenths or so down from his FP1 time, albeit on the mediums I think. There’s plenty of pace left in that Red Bull. I expect Merc to be ahead tomorrow, but only by a tenth or two at most.
Gary commented on the post, Alonso confident for race despite puzzling slump to 13th in qualifying 1 year ago
He and Ocon were very evenly matched throughout practice, with Alonso even having slightly superior long run pace I believe. Strange how it kind of fell away. The windy conditions didn’t help (supposedly), but […]
Gary commented on the post, 'Hamilton didn't break the rules by reversing' shouldn't be a story 1 year ago
A very good driver, but a few drivers as you say could have taken that spot and become multiple world champions, namely Alonso, Vettel, Button, and perhaps even Ricciardo given his solid form in 2014.
I guess […]

More diversity nonsense. As if having someone with opposite genitalia would make a significant difference. So frequently seems to be an issue in the top roles across the workforce, but rarely an interest in […]
Gary commented on the post, Mercedes regard Verstappen as "a very mature, very smart racer now" 1 year, 1 month ago
At the moment, I think in terms of outright talent I’d say Leclerc is practically on par with my top 3. I think he’s marginally less consistent but that will come as he matures even further as a driver. It’s all […]

Yeah, in fairness we don’t know the exact level Fernando will come back at. If he remains in the kind of form he left F1 in, then I stand by my comment. We’ll know in a few races! Agree about Leclerc and […]

In my view there are 3 drivers on that grid that could be put into equal machinery and you couldn’t reliably pick a winner week on week. Max is certainly one of them, alongside Lewis and Fernando. Hopefully Red […]

Folded? He drove exceptionally throughout the race, with a damaged car that was costing him 0.3s a lap. He was immediately ordered to give the place back, so he responded to a command, so it was hardly like he […]
