gregwtravels commented on the post, Should Formula 1 stop adding more street circuits to its calendar? 11 months, 2 weeks ago
You make a great point on the elevation changes. I think it is because everyone is trying to ape Monaco and have it run by water, and if you have water it’s likely to be in a place that is flat. But that means […]

Corporate organisation doesn’t want competition. A dog bites man story.

gregwtravels commented on the post, Monaco Grand Prix promoter insists race will stay on F1 calendar 1 year, 1 month ago
I live in the UK now, but grew up in Canada, and only started watching F1 because my father was a fan (there was no Drive to Survive back then). As a young kid, Monaco grabbed me instantly. So exotic, so […]

I feel sorry for the days of the week starting with T. They just get lumped together as “other.” I honour you, Tuesday and Thursday, even if the graph doesn’t. 😜

It is true that the Russian Government isn’t under the same polling pressure as occurs in the Western democratic governments, but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t need support. As this starts impacting both […]

As much as it pains me, Ferrari does look the nicest. Alpha Tauri a close second.

gregwtravels commented on the post, Verstappen's rivals don't share his concerns over "fake" Drive to Survive 1 year, 7 months ago
Fellow world champion Kimi Raikkonen said he has limited his participation as far as possible.
I can’t think of a more Kimi thing for him to have said. He could probably say that about all media. 😀

Agree. Danny Ric had a great drive from the front, but Bottas tipped it by passing through the field on a track that it is supposedly so hard to pass on.

gregwtravels commented on the post, Official F1 entry list describes Mazepin's nationality as 'RAF' 2 years, 2 months ago
I don’t think we will find out what they will play, as I doubt Mazepin will get close to a podium this year – or probably any year…

gregwtravels commented on the post, 2020 F1 driver rankings #19: Sebastian Vettel 2 years, 4 months ago
Agreed. I’m a Hamilton fan, but had a great respect for Vettel – both for his driving and his personality. Ferrari hasn’t been good for him – I hope Aston Martin gets us back the interesting character that […]

Bumped it up from a 6 to a 7 mostly because of all the last lap drama around tyres. I know people claim it’s manufactured drama, but setting strategy is a key part of a team’s job, and obviously the strategy on […]

As I’ll be sitting in the grandstands, I guess I’ll bring my wet weather gear.
I wonder if those at home will get lots of fascinating commentary on the ducks like in 2011.

gregwtravels commented on the post, Is Alonso's IndyCar adventure positive for Formula One? 6 years, 1 month ago
Agree with this mostly. I think it is less worse for McLaren as at least their badge will be on the car. For Honda, it is another shot by Alonso against them.
For F1 overall, it is good to neutral. Good if he […]

There is a clear criteria in becoming champion, which is getting the most points. Nico did that. He may not be the most exciting driver, or rthe best driver. But he is the driver that did what was […]

The Ol’ Brawny doesn’t come in any sort of specially marked glass, just a plain, unadorned pint glass. They wanted special glassware, but could not find a sponsor.

gregwtravels commented on the post, Is danger an essential part of Formula One? 7 years, 1 month ago
@dr-jekyll – agree with that.
I used to ski all the time without a helmet, now I won’t hit the slopes without one. There is inherent danger in taking up an activity like skiing (even if Hemmingway didn’t see […]

7 out of 10. Great race for the midfield, but with Vettel’s retirement and Hamilton’s damage, the front end seemed a forgone conclusion from the start which took some of the drama out. Loving seeing Haas do so […]
