Here is an intersting piece by ScarbsF1 that has a section which illustrates the point John is trying to make re blowing the rear wing endplates/brake ducts (if I understand it correctly!).

@hairpin , and therefore should not have had approval of any sort at any stage, not a good example of FIA consistency.
