Peter Hunter commented on the post, Senna clinches second world championship by taking Prost out 5 years, 1 month ago
In Australia after the 1990 Suzuka crash, with all and sundry, including most of the media, not wanting to believe that Senna had deliberately crashed into Prost, Jackie Stewart was the only one to call Senna out […]

Funny thing is that in today’s F1 (2017), Senna probably would have been penalised for causing an avoidable crash in 1989 (the car coming from behind and not being fully alongside often gets the blame) and had […]

As Keith said, pole at Suzuka was on the right hand side of the road in 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1991. It wasn’t changed until 1991.

McLaren and Honda telemetry both showed that Senna was still under full acceleration when he hit Prost. At no stage did he even attempt to brake despite being well past the braking point for the corner.
Senna […]

100% to that. Yes Prost did turn in earlier than usual, even as a Prost fan I’ll concede that. However, Senna not only came from impossibly far back but the fact is he was never going to make the turn at the speed […]

“Prost also had suspicions about the quality of equipment he was receiving, despite McLaren allocating Honda’s powerful engines to the pair at random to guard against any favouritism.”
But as both Keke R […]
Peter Hunter commented on the post, Schumacher wins again as traction control row brews 5 years, 1 month ago
It wasn’t uncommon in the mid-80’s for cars to come into and exit the pits at speed with the pits packed full of people. Other than the pit crews (remember back then there were 26 cars per race), there were […]

They actually had an extra day (Thursday) of practice for the first Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide in 1985.

IIRC, Riccaro Patrese described the Benetton B193 as a step down in class from the Williams cars he had been used to. From memory they did use traction control in 1993, but Patrese did say that it didn’t have […]

Have to agree, sadly. I grew up watching F1 from 1985 (when the championship came to Adelaide, my home town) and frankly a lot of the races in the 80’s and 90’s were processional. It was actually worse in the […]
Peter Hunter commented on the post, "The Official End of Season Review" – 1983 F1 season review video 5 years, 2 months ago
While I agree with Jonesracing82 that the footage in the 1983 season review is actually quite good, unfortunately the commentary from Kriesky and Rosenblat almost makes you want to watch it on mute.
Kriesky’s […]
Peter Hunter commented on the post, Raikkonen fumes over Ricciardo pass 6 years, 11 months ago
Kimi trying to close the door on Dan Ricciardo was almost like when Prost closed the door on Senna in Japan 1989, the only difference is that it was at a slower speed and this one didn’t end with both cars off the […]

Peter Hunter commented on the post, "I've lost this race, haven't I?" Mercedes blunder hands Hamilton's win to Rosberg 6 years, 11 months ago
You know, I don’t want to offend anyone…..but all this talk that Mercedes should make Rosberg lose a race (Canada for example) to give Hamilton the win he ‘should have had’ in Monaco is just plain silly. It […]

Its a bit rich coming from Bernie. In a lot of ways he has been the most unpopular figure with F1 fans for the past 30-odd years. Actually make that motorsport fans in general. There are still many people […]

This is what I love about living in Australia. For well over 30 years our Formula 1 coverage has been on Free To Air.

On a different note…..
RIP Andrea de Cesaris. He was around when I first started watching F1 in 1985, though he didn’t race in Adelaide (my home) that year as Guy Ligier fired him after his small off during […]

Some good news which I hope is accurate…
L’Equipe report that Jules Bianchi’s operation is complete and that he is breathing independently.

Apparently Mika Salo reported that Bianchi’s Marussia went under the tractor nose first…..
Definitely not good. I hope he comes out of it ok, but even if he does live I doubt he’ll race again. Very sad as the […]
