Hmmm. It does look very slick, which I guess is a good thing.

However I have my distinct reservations about the following:
    1) – Portrayal of Hunt as the heroic, handsome charismatic Anglophone battling the dull boring robotic Germanic Niki Lauda
    2) – That it will in some ways try to portray Lauda as a coward (the GDPA meeting scene in the trailer implies that it was a motion carried by the majority of drivers to race in Fuji when in reality there was one vote in it)
    3) – That with Lauda being out of action for 2 races is swept under the carpet and that a huge fuss is made of Hunt’s DSQ in Britain.

Others may see the general theme of my comments, but I can’t help thinking that from the trailer, Hunt is going to come out a demi-god and Lauda as a somewhat lesser light. Infact it may well end with “James Hunt died young, Niki Lauda quit the sport to fly aeroplanes”….

Webber. In my opinion, Webber spent most of his prime years in a poor Williams or building up Red Bull. Massa however spent his in a decent Ferrari.

I stayed at the camping near Les Combs in 2009 and on the Saturday we went in the car down to Stavelot. Nice little town, fairly quiet with a few nice restaurants. I was actually surprised that there wasn’t more happening. I suspect a lot of well-at-heel fans stay there. Wasn’t a long drive (although that is from the other side of the circuit).

Personally, I think that Mansell is a good shout, he was in an incredibly strong era. Ditto Hamilton.

I know that I’ll get pilloried for this, but I think JV is a reasonable contender. Yes, everyone always remembers his appalling performances in the early 2000s, he was brilliant in 1996/7. I would certainly rate him above 1996 team-mate Hill and above Button.

They raced the 1961 I think USA GP under another name in protest at something or another, I think they were white and dark blue.

I suspect that there are others – I have a sneaking suspicion that there was once a yellow one somewhere?

Keith mentioned 1997, 1998 was pretty good too however.

I really liked 1999 which was the title that noone wanted to win (H-H F was driving magnificently in a Jordan of all things having a mid-season title push) and it featured the race which noone wanted to win (1999 European GP when each successive leader slithered off in wet conditions!).

I was wondering this. The farcical thing was a supposedly left-wing president pouring money into the most capitalist sport in the world…..1

Well. If I have to go with drivers which I have seen, then it is certainly Button by some margin in my opinion.

If we extend it to drivers I haven’t seen, then I’d have to say Hawthorn or Hunt.

The European (Luxembourg?) GP from 1999 was pretty amazing, the race that no-one wanted to win!

And 1996 Monaco GP – the race that no-one wanted to finish!

The 1998 Austrian GP was good too, a storming drive from DC from the back of the pack to finish second (albeit he’d started 14th to boot!).

I (obviously!) want Scotland to win!

I think last year if Scotland had won the Calcutta Cup, the positions of the two teams may well have been reversed.

Personally I can’t see past France.

An aside: Italy got some good results and ran some teams very close last year, could they potentially win the tournament at some point in the next few years. Or, to use an F1 analogy, will they forever be Webber/Barrichello/Coulthard/Massa?

We’ve seen drivers do that before (DC on Schumi in France springs immediately to mind), but I’ve only ever seen it in-cockpit, and I don’t think as blatant as that! Haha!

I am torn however – I feel that the picture almost looks like a very clever photoshop image. I may well be wrong, and I hope I am!

Well, only Massa (as expected) yielded for Alonso.

However, no-one seems to have predicted Schumacher yielding for Vettel, costing his current employers world championship points and helping against his former employers.

Bit of a two-finger salute to the two teams that pushed him out of the sport!
