No clue, but I’ve been looking. I forgot to check again at the end of last week and ended up missing out on the prediction for the last race :-/

I don’t think they’re trying to say that…I just think they’re trying to say that they have a sound, some kind of character, a feeling that goes with the cars. And they’re bound to be playing on it a) because of the stupid focus on the sound of the new engines in F1 and b) because that’s always been a part of the proposition…they’d be able to run on inner city courses without breaking any noise restrictions.

Gotta, I really like the sound…kinda sounds like a jet going round the track at times :-D

I’m slightly confused by the tyres…I thought Michelin had created a slick tyre that could be run in the wet, why aren’t they using it here? Is it just a replacement for dry and inters but they still need separate full wets? (and how the hell do they make slicks that work in the wet anyway?)

I don’t see how I “go from nobility to hypocrisy in six seconds” at all…there’s a discussion to be had here about a government that is actively trying to make a section of society illegal and I don’t think that F1 should sleep-walk it’s way into another situation like South Africa.

The points Force Maikel raises about other countries are certainly eye-opening in some cases but perhaps stretching the point in others.

My point here really was to start a discussion now rather than a week before the race as always happens with Bahrain. I guess things are, or should be, a lot more clear cut with the Olympics as their charter specifically states that no form of exclusion is permissible so how their justifying going is beyond me!

The difference between Texas and Russia is the in Russia there’s a law against it, in Texas the people (according to you) don’t accept it.

I do know a couple of Russians (living in the UK) and they couldn’t give a rats ass if people are LGBT…this isn’t about the people, it’s about the government and the laws.

And yes, while we’re at it the Bahrain GP should be cancelled. The problem is every year a fuss starts about it about a week before the GP when it’s far too late to do anything about it.

Define propaganda? That’s just an excuse so that they aren’t seen to have a statute on the books banning LGBT’s…and yes, Russia have confirmed that same sex couple Olympic athletes appearing in public or mentioning that they live in the same house as their partner will be arrested! http://americablog.com/2013/08/russia-olympics-gay-safety-athletes-sochi.html

There are no publically out F1 drivers but with the size of the crews the teams and media bring its not outside the realms of possibility that some of them a gay right? Is F1 going to start leaving people at home because its too dangerous to go to races?

yeah, and anyway Stephen Fry’s letter to the IOC and David Cameron already covered that bit. As I said it’s just the same as Aparthied in South Africa…keeping politics out of sport is all well and good but but when it gets down to it that’s clearly rubbish. If you’re going into countries whose politics are objectionable you’re clearly supporting them. You don’t have to be waving the flag of whichever dictator or regime is running the place but just being there shows them support, brings them publicity and probably most importantly, bring in money.

Russia was given the Winter Olympics all the way back in 2007 so it’s going to be tough to move, but F1 should be easy in comparison.

I await next year with trepidation as the public outcry mounts far far too late before both the Russian race and Bahrain (again), only to be followed by Bernie saying the deals and contracts are all in place, we’ve got no problem here, it’s too late to do anything about it now :-(

I know this is against the spirit of the question but I don’t see why Sky couldn’t use The Chain…after all, they’ve nicked everything else from the BBC haven’t they ;-)

Oh, and if they don’t use that how about the Knights of Cydonia by Muse?

“implication that Sky forced the BBC to give up Formula 1” – nope, not what I said or intended.

They weren’t forced to BY Sky…they were forced to because of a lack of funds, partially because they have to pay Sky to get their content shown. That is dictated to them by the Government and that’s what the petition is about.

Not played F1 2011 yet but I thought 97 was a cracker and F1 2010 was cracking. The F1 cars in GT5 seem to be just a bit too twitchy for my liking…

Showing my age now, and it’s certainly not the best ever, but Revs on the BBC Micro was afaik the first game to try and in any way accurately model the tracks. It came with just Silverstone originally, later expanded to include Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Oulton Park and Snetterton and I spent HOURS on it :-)

And if you think the replacement name for Jacques Villeneuve in F1 97 was good, check out the cheesy names in this one… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revs_(video_game)
