cog = centre of gravity, not cog as in gear cog
John Beamer commented on the post, Button wants to emulate Ferrari's 2012 fightback 9 years, 2 months ago
Kinematically there is no difference between the pull rod and push rod so I don’t think this is true. The pull rod has lower cog, but this is offset by it being harder to set-up (component access) and needing a […]
John Beamer commented on the post, Teams haven't sussed out tyres yet – Ferrari 9 years, 2 months ago
I don’t believe they’re almost two seconds faster than last year’s pole with 30kg of fuel in the tank.
Don’t forget that the 2013 tyres are probably worth at last 1+ second a lap over the 2012 rubber

Exactly – almost zero. There is a very very slight aero gain from the panel offset by a very very minor cog penalty

Given weight is fixed that isn’t true – the only advantage could be CoG ….

John Beamer wrote a new post, Late front wing development on 2012's fastest car 9 years, 5 months ago
The McLaren MP4-27 was the fastest car of 2012.
And with little changes in the F1 rules for 2013, they continued developing it until the closing stages of the season. The McLaren sported a revised front wing as […]

Red Bull have persevered with their sidepod bodywork which gave them a few headaches earlier in the year.

John Beamer commented on the post, Why McLaren turned their nose up 9 years, 12 months ago
Well not sure that is quite right. Brawn had nailed the double diffuser first and foremost. One can argue the low nose was a hindrance really given the recent trend to high noses and the fact that in the second […]

Yes – they keep changing this. As I best recall the detail this year is quite different to what it was last year ….
John Beamer commented on the post, Why McLaren turned their nose up 9 years, 12 months ago
Maybe – the MP4-27 had good traction in the last section in Spain. The unpredictable tyre behaviour this year makes assertions about mechanical grip hard to get a really good read on.
John Beamer commented on the post, Why McLaren turned their nose up 10 years ago
Yes it is – teams can choose where to place it
John Beamer commented on the post, Why McLaren turned their nose up 10 years ago
Sure – but the space between the nose and the chassis is much less therefore harder to get airflow under the nose hence outboard cameras made more sense. The vanes were shorter and therefore less effective at […]
John Beamer wrote a new post, Why McLaren turned their nose up 10 years ago
McLaren began 2012 with a lower and sleeker nose on their car than their rivals.
But following the Mugello test a revised version was introduced for the Spanish Grand Prix with a higher tip and a flatter […]

Sure – it is everything when designing the cars. I am just trying to educate and enlighten a little, not design a racing suspension.
By the way – I agree with you. The F2012 suspension I don’t think is really […]
John Beamer commented on the post, The problems with Ferrari's front pull-rod suspension 10 years, 2 months ago
Pretty much … yes. Was it Minardi or Arrows who publicly switched to push-rod because of access for set-up.
And the angles are not BS because I took them from front on photos of the Ferrari. Sure, they are […]
