Mercedes were struggling in testing and they have pulled it back so much that they are already 2 and 3 in qualifying.
We now have to wait and see what the relative race paces are.

My whacky proposal is to make a power unit that can be detuned to actually work in a high end luxury or sports car. The more F1 performance would come from greater turbo charging and a big KERS (Bigger electric […]

Yes. It all depends how badly he had it.
Perez seemed to bounce back, but Stroll was poor after returning so it could go either way. Hopefully he feels good.
Sad for Russell. I know people don’t like the […]

To make that work you would have to make the cars more like spec cars. Just think about the difficulty George Russell will have learning about all the buttons and modes on the steering wheel. He has to get his […]

I wonder if the nose of the car pierced one of the gaps in the barrier. Maybe they should start overlapping the 3 strips of armcove barrier, or have a steel sheet in front of them.
The other thing they […]

I’m fine with them switching to a bio fuel for the cars if they want. It’s a good symbolic step, but I hope they don’t make a big deal about it if it’s not something that could be scaled for other vehicles to […]

The engine token system was also a major factor in their dominance. It made sense to control costs, but essentially locked in their dominance in quite a frustrating way. More so in the early years of the new […]

It’s interesting that Andrew Green is bringing up Long Covid as a possible reason for the slump. I had wondered if that was a factor.

This is a bit cynical but I predict there is an 80% chance they will design a track with no overtaking points usable for a modern formula 1 car.

The major difference between them in this season seems to be race tyre management. More than ever before I think.
I suppose really it’s just Lewis being faster, so he can take it easier and then has tyre life […]

I’m not a great fan of the token system. It leads to some weird stuff.
