The first places are being taken on the GP3 grid for 2017. Ferrari junior driver Callum Ilott has bagged a seat at ART. As they’ve produced the last three drivers’ champions in the series, it’s undoubtedly the place to be:

Very happy with this, GP3 races are usually a procession so this can add a variable and also prepares drivers for F1

Get them into bad habits whilst they’re young then.
The ideology that overtaking can only be done with the assistance of this format of DRS somewhat concerns and aggravates me.
Overtaking and defending are both arts. DRS ruins that.

Somewhat inevitably, GP3 will follow the lead set by GP2 in adding F1-style proximity-based DRS to its cars in 2017.
We introduced a new car in GP3 this year and it has given us 100% satisfaction in terms of reliability so we decided to add another layer to the drivers’ apprenticeship with the addition of DRS in order to prepare them for GP2. O…

Would it be premature to just hand ART Grand Prix the teams’ title? The two top rookies in the two leading F3 categories last year, plus another standout in Euro F3, plus a McLaren YDDP member and the top rookie in Formula V8. That’s almost unfair to everyone else.

ART has also signed Charles Leclerc, the top rookie in European F3 last year. Their line-up is therefore De Vries, Albon and Fukuzumi.
Really happy to anounce that I will be racing in @GP3_Official with @ARTGP this year !! :) pic.twitter.com/U8GYApzaE0

Am I right in remembering that drivers will no longer be allowed to compete in European F3 for more than 3 seasons, or have I just made that up? If so, it makes sense for her.

DAMS have announced three of their drivers for the next year in their first entry. American F3 driver Santino Ferucci, who stepped onto the podium last season, will switch to GP3. Doesn’t seem like a bad driver and with a top squad with DAMS will be near the front of the field next year. Jake Hughes, from Formula Renault Alps will join DAMS aswell…[Read more]

Fair enough, 8×3 would be preferable, but they’ve been pragmatic and allowed 7×4. Considering the strength and momentum of FIA F3, GP3 must be riskier for new teams to join.
An extra seat for all teams will also give a possible outlet for any progressing FIA F3 pay drivers, if they bring in a car limit for 2016.
