TomD11 commented on the post, "I still don't think those penalties were necessary": Hamilton vows he won't be caught out next year 2 years, 5 months ago
OK I missed the yellow flag one, but they’re usually a slam dunk. However, Leclerc escaped penalties for a) an identical crash to the Albon one, with Stroll at Sochi and also b) for a practice start at Spa, […]

TomD11 commented on the post, F1 drivers don't want their radio being broadcast? That's exactly why it should be 2 years, 6 months ago
I might be misunderstanding the mechanics here, but as I understand it, the drivers have to hold/toggle a button to transmit. If they’ve made a conscious decision push that button then surely they must be in […]

TomD11 commented on the post, Which feeder series drivers deserve an F1 chance? 2 years, 6 months ago
The man. The icon. A driver so good he once passed the chequered flag twice, which is coincidentally the number of race bans he received that season, a season in which he also had to be helped to do a three-point […]

TomD11 commented on the post, Which feeder series drivers deserve an F1 chance? 2 years, 6 months ago
+1 He’s been a bit unlucky at times and I think his qualifying lets him down, but whenever he’s on screen, he always seems to be doing something that earns him a tick in my book. (Contrast that with Dan Ticktum, […]

TomD11 commented on the post, FIA rejects Verstappen's claim Safety Car was used 'to make race more exciting' 2 years, 7 months ago
When the officiating keeps making the headlines, it’s a sign something’s got to change. In the last few Grands Prix alone, we’ve had:
1) Randomly closing the pit lane at the same time as the deployment of the […]

TomD11 commented on the post, Despite F1 drivers' concerns, stewards don't give penalty points for "minor infringements" 2 years, 7 months ago
Fundamentally the stewarding and race direction since Masi inherited the job has been below par, with consistently inconsistent and highly-questionable decision-making. Not to get too rose-tinted but it feels like […]

TomD11 commented on the post, Despite F1 drivers' concerns, stewards don't give penalty points for "minor infringements" 2 years, 7 months ago
And in another case of one rule for LEC, one rule for HAM, Leclerc had an identical collision with Stroll in Sochi and not a sausage. Penalise it or don’t, just be consistent, is that too much to ask?

TomD11 commented on the post, Grosjean prefers WEC and Formula E to IndyCar: 'Ovals may scare me' 2 years, 8 months ago
After actually reading the article, Fernando is a lot more complimentary about Lewis than the headline would suggest. He simply points out that much like himself with Toyota at Le Mans, you’re unlikely to figure […]

TomD11 commented on the post, Stewards cancel Hamilton's two penalty points for practice start violations 2 years, 8 months ago
This just gets better and better. After being so thorough in their investigation that it took them until after the race had started to adjudicate on an incident that occurred before the cars had even taken to the […]

TomD11 commented on the post, Hamilton two penalty points away from race ban after practice start violations 2 years, 8 months ago
Did he perform them both on the same lap or on two separate laps? Because if it was the latter, why didn’t Race Control or the Stewards immediately get on the radio to Merc, given the severity of the infraction is […]

Because it also means Toto is more likely to stick around at Merc?

TomD11 commented on the post, Ticktum regrets "crash with him" radio comment on Deletraz which led to reprimand 2 years, 8 months ago
If it was just a one-off error of judgment, as bad as it was, it might be forgivable. With Ticktum thought, it seems to be week-in week-out, in every formula he drives in. I know there’s such a thing as […]

TomD11 commented on the post, Ticktum regrets "crash with him" radio comment on Deletraz which led to reprimand 2 years, 8 months ago
It’s not just words though, is it? He chased after a rival, under Safety Car conditions, and crashed into them. Not only did he endanger people but he negatively impacted Ricky Collard’s career, who didn’t have […]

TomD11 commented on the post, F1 polls fans on replacing qualifying with 30-minute reverse grid races 2 years, 8 months ago
When was the last time we had a reverse grid? Or other gimmick of that magnitude?
As for sporting integrity, F1 is a team sport – the best car and driver combination win, that’s the sport we follow and always […]

TomD11 commented on the post, F1 polls fans on replacing qualifying with 30-minute reverse grid races 2 years, 8 months ago
Not that I’m condoning the idea but would it not make more sense to try this sort of gimmick at a non-championship event, held at a track like Mugello, that wouldn’t typically feature on the calendar? That way it […]

TomD11 commented on the post, Masi rejects drivers' "quite offensive" claim safety was risked at restart 2 years, 8 months ago
Why not just make it nice and easy and have the Safety Car lights go out at the beginning of the third sector, that gives plenty of room for the field to form up behind the lead driver? If the declaration of the […]

TomD11 commented on the post, Mercedes' pit error was understandable – Alfa Romeo's was not 2 years, 8 months ago
I still don’t understand why a full SC was required if the pit lane was closed and they could throw the double-waved yellows, surely it’s one or the other? If they’d thrown the SC why not just wait until everyone […]

TomD11 commented on the post, Rate the race: 2020 Italian Grand Prix 2 years, 8 months ago
Congrats to Pierre but I still don’t see why we needed a SC given that A) the pit lane was closed and B) they could have just wheeled the car backwards.

TomD11 commented on the post, Red Bull hope 'quali mode' ban won't increase Mercedes' advantage 2 years, 9 months ago
I still don’t understand why this couldn’t wait until the end of the season, this mid-season shifting of the goalposts always leaves a sour taste and by all accounts it won’t have the desired effect. You […]

Exactly, it’s not like it won’t be the same for everyone or would hurt to spice things up after (in all likelihood) the championship is done and dusted. Bring on the minor chance of chaos, I say :)
