Top ten… Races of the 2000s

When F1 is at its very best there’s no other sport than can match it for excitement. And even despite some of the dodgy rules that seemed design to make racing impossibly there have been some cracking races this decade. Here’s ten of them – and no, they’re not all wet races either!

BTCC Knockhill 3: Sheddon wins at home

Team Halfords were rewarded for the effort of re-building Matt Neal’s car after Brands Hatch with a one-two finish led by home racer Gordon Sheddon. But the championship fight between Jason Plato and Fabrizio Giovanardi will go down to the wire as Plato came home third with the Vauxhall driver fifth.

DTM Nurburgring: Second win for Tomcyk

Despite a long break since his win in the last race at Zandvoort, Maritn Tomcyk was on top form at the Nurbugring and cruised to a second win. Bruno Spengler kept himself in the title hunt with a useful second on a day when Audi appeared to have the upper hand.

I’m off to the Italian Grand Prix next week and I want to take a banner.
