In the round-up: Pierre Gasly says he is aiming to score points in two of the final three races of the 2022 season before he departs the team he has spent almost all of his career so far with.
In brief
Gasly aiming for points in at least two of final three races with AlphaTauri
Gasly has competed in 105 grands prix, all but 12 with AlphaTarui and its previous guise as Toro Rosso. This season has so far been his least successful with the team, having score just 23 points over the first 19 rounds. Asked by RaceFans what he would define as ending his time with AlphaTauri on a high, Gasly said finishing the final races in the top ten.“What I will define a ‘high’ is, this year, points,” said the 2020 Italian Grand Prix winner. “You’ve got to be objective and quite honest with the situation, based on the number of points we’ve scored.
“For sure, it’s not tomorrow that we’re going to be fighting for the top five suddenly. Hopefully we can fight for the points until the end of the year. We have three more races and if we can get points at least on two of this occasions, that will be great.”
Magnussen takes grid penalty for sixth engine
Haas driver Kevin Magnussen will take a five place grid penalty for this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix after his team installed a sixth engine of the season into his car.
Magnussen had handed his car over to Pietro Fittipaldi for the first practice session on Friday, but Fittipaldi was told to stop his car on track after Haas detected a problem with the car’s turbo. Work on Magnussen’s car meant that he only took to the track for the first time over half an hour into the second session, eventually completing 21 laps all on the prototype 2023 Pirelli tyres, ending the session in 18th.
Mercedes junior Antonelli moves up to FREC
Mercedes development driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli will step up from Formula 4 to Formula Regional-level competition next year after it was confirmed he would compete in the 2023 Formula Regional European Championship.
Antonelli, who won this year’s Italian and German Formula 4 championships with Prema, will take a step up the single-seater ladder by competing in the FREC for 2023 with the team, considered a step below the FIA Formula 3 championship. Antonelli competed in a total of 43 F4 races across the UAE, Italian and German championships this year, winning 24 of them.

Red Bull’s punishment isn’t just unfair – it could ruin F1 forever (Independent)
"This is insane: it encourages teams to be dishonest to get themselves to the negotiating table. I say we were left in limbo, we weren’t really – we all knew what was coming. Much of the last weeks’ discussion has been dominated by just how meek the response will be to this breach of the rules."
Emerson Fittipaldi slams 'talentless' F1 drivers and makes Mick Schumacher claim (Mirror)
"If the team made that comment that he is too expensive for the team (because of his costly crashes this season) that means the team needs someone with money. That is something we have to change for the future. We need more talent and less money in racing."
"I think that proof in the pudding now is that 10 years later, the right thing was done. We were able to put the right investment group at the time together... There of course were some teething problems, but everything's turned out and in a really good way that I think it's something that the city and the state are really proud of."
Good Crazy (Perez) (Players' Tribune)
"I think this 'good' kind of craziness has helped me a lot. There is definitely a streak that runs in the family. My dad, Antonio, has dedicated his life to this sport: He used to race before he became the manager of Adrián Fernández. My brother, also Antonio, is obsessed with racing. So it’s in my blood. But Formula One? As a kid, I never thought about it. There were no Mexican drivers there. I was just racing because I loved it."
F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix tickets to go on sale next week (Las Vegas Review Journal)
"American Express card members can purchase tickets to the race taking place Nov. 16-18, 2023, starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday on Ticketmaster’s website, F1 announced Wednesday. Those who signed up for the priority interest list — donating the $7.77 fee — will be able to purchase tickets beginning at 10 a.m. Nov. 3. Tickets are slated to go on sale to the general public at 10 p.m. Nov. 5."
News on Next Update and the Future of F1 Manager (F1 Manager via Reddit)
"This next update for F1 Manager 2022 will be the last significant update that addresses player-reported feedback, or suggested changes and additions. Any potential updates following this would be minor patches that do not noticeably affect gameplay. To ensure upcoming F1 Manager projects realise their potential and meet the expectations of both our team and our community, the development team’s focus must move fully onto projects beyond F1 Manager 2022, after this upcoming update."
The Cards of Fortune with Jessica Hawkins (Aston Martin via YouTube)
"Connery or Craig? Wets or dries? Indy 500 or Le Mans? Racing is all about adapting to the situation, based on the cards you’re dealt. After all, fortune favours the brave. We challenged Jessica Hawkins to make some quick-fire decisions in the second episode of our new series."

We are disappointed to learn of the unacceptable harassment aimed at FIA Race Steward, Silvia Bellot.
There is no room for any form of harassment or abuse in our sport and we condemn this behaviour.

F1 draws staggering crowds for Friday practice these days. The FP1 crowds at some places are bigger than the raceday crowds would have been even five years ago. We’re truly living in a golden age of popularity for this sport #MexicoGP 🇲🇽

Comment of the day
After Red Bull’s penalty for breaching the 2021 budget cap is announced, @bullfrog thinks there’s a better way to punish the team than reducing their aerodynamic testing allowance by 10%…
Instead of making the tunnel 10% less windy, they should be made to run 25% fewer wheels.

Happy birthday!
Happy birthday to Gavin Brown and Striay!

The Independent post couldn’t be more spot-on. RBR should(‘ve) also lose all points they’ve achieved since the overspending began.
If Haas really needed a so-called pay driver, neither Gio nor Hulk could/would be a Mick replacement option.
I like Checo’s Players’ Tribune writing. Good like Gasly’s from pre-2021 Bahrain GP.
So Silvia Bellot got harassed online despite being unresponsible for Nando’s back-&-forth penalty.
The debris mishear is still good.
Seb’s reference is weird.
Good suggestion by COTD.

Why would you not send a double champion in F4 straight to F3? Paul Aron hardly deserves the plum Prema seat there, Kimi Antonelli is clearly the brighter prospect for Mercedes. A year in Regional is just going to be a waste for his talents.
