Williams reveal special livery for three grands prix chosen by fan vote

Williams have presented the special livery they will use for three races beginning with the Singapore Grand Prix in September.

The team announced in May it would invite its fans to choose between one of four different designs it will use for the 15th round of the world championship. Each incorporates the colours of its sponsor Gulf.

In an event at its Grove base today Williams revealed the winning livery. It will race in the ‘Bolder than Bold’ design at the Singapore, Japanese and Qatar grands prix.

“This competition was an incredible opportunity for our fans to actively engage and shape the visual identity of our team,” said team principal James Vowles. Over 180,000 votes were cast in the poll.

“The winning design encapsulates the essence of the Gulf and Williams Racing partnership, reflecting on the past but building on our future,” Vowles added. “This livery will create a defining moment when it takes to the track later in the season.”

Williams marked its 800th grand prix with a special livery at last weekend’s British Grand Prix. However the cancellation of the round at Imola earlier this year meant the team has only started 799 world championship rounds so far, and will reach the milestone at next week’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

    It’s not going to make them any faster, but I like the livery. That’s no surprise, as it’s the one I chose, back when the article about it appeared over here at RF.

      Their faces are a bit orange in that picture… is that deliberate?

        Seeing as how the white parts on the car are almost perfectly grey (same R, G and B values) it’s likely someone altered the white balance of the image to better represent the car, which is fair enough. But it can have some knock-on effects on other parts of the image, especially if the lighting of those areas was different; and it might well have been as they probably put some big bright spots on the car.
