I was a little incredulous when I heard that McLaren were intending to sell software to businesses.
But I saw a report on Newsnight the other day that put the whole thing into a much more convincing perspective. Essentially, the plan is to use their extremely sophisticated race strategy software to help businesses prepare for the future, for example, to provide contingency planning.
Perhaps they could sell it to the FIA? They didn’t seem to have much of a backup plan when three-quarters of their entrants arrived with unsuitable equipment for the United States Grand Prix next year.
I’m sure Max Mosley wouldn’t be too proud to refuse a business management lesson from Ron Dennis…
